Off-Topic Forum Rules
The Off-Topic Forum is to keep non-value threads in a designated part of the forum so that's it's easily accessible to those that wish to participate and 'out of the way' for those users that are genuinely looking for information. While this forum is rarely moderated, we still need to abide by the General Rules in addition to the following:
  • Post-Counters have been removed from this forum
  • Posts deleted will not be accompanied by a courtesy Private Message
  • This forum is for posts that have zero informative content related to TOP in any way (such as: The Weather thread, Word Association thread, "Friday BUMP" thread, Happy Birthday threads, Describe the person posting above you thread, post count milestone threads, etc.)
  • Threads inactive for longer than 30 days may be deleted without notice
  • "PM box is full!" threads will be deleted without notice - vBulletin sends and email reminder to the person. No need to make a thread.

How-To Forum Rules (Protege & General)
Both How-To Forums are a place for Members to post instructional threads on automotive related tasks.

The How-To section is a collection of step-by-step instructions written by members so that others have a resource and guide of how-to complete the same task, if they want to do the same project.

Replies are limited to questions or comments on the How-To ONLY. No Off-Topic postings or irrelevant postings.

DO NOT create a new thread asking a question of how to complete a new task.

Member Commerce Feedback Rules
These guidelines are here to help you leave the most effective feedback for other TOP Members.
  • Do not leave feedback unless you have completed a purchase, sale, or trade with that person. No false feedback allowed, negative or positive! This includes Group Buys and any other personal services rendered (detailing, installation, etc).
  • Do not leave 'negative' feedback if the transaction did not go thru or the other person changed their mind before you sent out payment/product. Even if you were scheduled to meet up and the other person did not show up. Using a third party service would have prevented such an inconvenience.
  • Do not troll and/or leave unwarranted negative feedback. Feedback threads are not a joke, so do not joke around in other people's feedback threads.
  • Save the link/url to your feedback thread, so that you can easily refer to it. Add it to your internet browser's 'favorites' folder or your signature.
  • Stick to the facts and describe your transaction from YOUR experience and what you KNOW happened. Avoid hearsay.
  • PLEASE no comments/jokes, only feedback.
  • It is important to add detailed information about various points of your transactions. Leaving vague feedback, such as "everything went great/well" does not offer enough information for other buyers.

Buy / Sell / Trade Forum Rules (Car Related & Other)
Both Buy / Sell / Trade Forums are intended for individuals to buy, sell, and trade between one another. This does not include businesses or individuals providing products or services for business. Such individuals wishing to use the forums for these purposes should inquire about becoming Club Sponsors (contact any Club Officer). Additional details can be found under the Sponsor/Vendor Rules. TOP cannot guarantee the legitimacy of the buyer, seller, or trader. TOP does not take responsibility for any sort of transactions that takes place between individuals. To post in any items in the Buy / Sell / Trade Forums your items and post much adhere to the following rules:
  • You MUST post a price for ALL items
  • You cannot charge taxes for your items
  • You must honor your posted price
  • No auction or raffle style posts will be allowed
  • The posting of off-site links by themselves is prohibited. You may include the link, but you MUST include all of the linked information as well as posting a firm price. This applies to links such as Kijiji, Craigslist, eBay, etc.
  • Thread crapping will not be tolerated. If you do not intend to buy and have nothing positive to add, please refrain from posting in that topic. If you think the asking prices is too high, or want to make an offer significantly lower than the posted price, please contact the seller via Private Message.
  • You cannot sell something you do not have in your immediate possession or own.
  • Only one thread 'bump' per 24 hour period.
  • Edit / Bump your current thread. DO NOT REPOST THE ITEM. Multiple posts will be deleted.
  • There will be NO pinning of threads in this forum (including those of Officers, as we are no different than any other members)
  • If posting a "Feeler" or "Gauging Interest" thread, you must post prices that you will be looking for when selling.
  • Use common sense. If the deal seems too good to be true then take extra precaution.
  • Clarity is key. Links to a product's website are often helpful. Be honest when describing the condition of used parts. Make sure there is a mutual understanding of what is being paid for and what is expected. Agree on any terms of sale before the transaction takes place. (i.e.: damage responsibility, excess charges, guarantees, and payment options)
  • Keep in touch when making transactions. Let the buyer know when money has arrived, items have been shipped, and if you're having any difficulties. In case of deals gone bad, keep a record of your discussion.
  • Check for references (use the Member Commerce Feedback section as a start). If a trader claims to have references but cannot produce them then take extra precautions when trading. The number of posts and the length of time they have been registered will be a good place to begin but there are no guarantees.
  • Attempt to resolve any issues in private. If the issue cannot be resolved after a reasonable amount of time contact one of the TOP Officers. You may post in the Member's Feedback thread to warn others if necessary, however keep it respectful. Public banter will not be tolerated.
  • Always leave an accurate evaluation at the end of the deal, in the feedback section.
  • "DIBS" is up to the seller if they wish or do not wish to honour. Respect the seller's decision. You may only post "DIBS" for YOURSELF.
  • ...and always remember, "Buyer Beware!" and happy buying, selling, and trading!
Failure to comply with the above rules will result in a warning issued in your thread or via PM to help correct your posting. If after a considerable amount of time you have not corrected the post to comply with the above rules, your thread may be CLOSED or DELETED. Repeated disregard for the above rules will result in banning.

Group Buy Forum Rules
Group buys have become a great way to take advantage of the buying force TOP has. Over the years we have had dozens of great GB's and it is due to the work of the individuals who have organized them. In addition to the Commerce rules, here are some tips/guidelines to think of when participating in one:
  • Buyer Beware - Like all personal sales/group buys/trades, the buyer has the sole responsibility in insuring that his/her investment is a good one. This includes how payments are made and how delivery and pick is organized. This is the most important rule of them all.
  • TOP and its Officers are not responsible for the outcome of any GB's.
  • Do your research on the organizer of the GB. Talk to other members about the organizer, research previous GB's and ask questions.
  • Prior to starting the GB, you MUST contact any possible Club Sponsors. TOP works very hard to maintain a great relationship with its Sponsors and has the confidence that they will provide their most competitive pricing. Supply them with all of the required info, let them know it is for a group buy and you have contacted other suppliers. If you already have prices, it's up to you if you want to give them those prices. If you do, they can try to beat them, or they might just say that is out of their range and will pass on the group buy. But at the very least, give them an opportunity to quote.
  • Force the organizer to post up as many details about the GB as possible. This will help the overall process and insure that everything is on the up and up.
  • Participate in the GB when possible. There is no better way to insure that it goes smoothly than participating yourself. It is up to the organizer to allow individuals to participate or not since the organizers are likely the one who’s reputation / credit is at risk.
  • Do your OWN research on the product. Take the time to find out as much about the product on your own. This includes issues like fitment, compatibility and quality.
  • The Organizer is often (but not always) benefiting from the GB. Please be aware that the organizer may be doing a GB for no other reason than to receive the same discount as the rest of you. Realistically, the organizer may be receiving a larger discount, a free product, or monetary benefits in leading this GB. It is up to you to decide if the BENEFITS of the GB are sufficient enough for you to participate. You should factor in the time and RISK that an organizer takes in conducting a GB. In the end, you do not have to participate if you do not want to.
  • With the Club Sponsors, ALL Group Buys need to be approved by at least two (2) Officers. If you would like to start up a group buy, you are free to gauge interest on the board. If / when there seems to be enough interest, please PM an Officer and let them know that you would like to start an official Group Buy. The Officer will discuss with the other Officers, and will probably double check that you have given our Sponsors a chance to quote, so it's best to do this in advance. It is at the Officers' discretion whether or not to allow the group buy to take place. For the most part, all group buys will be allowed. However, if you are new to the forum, and you have no referrals, feedback, credibility, chances are that you will need to gain some before the Group Buy is allowed.
  • If your GB is spanning multiple forums/clubs, you MUST post ALL details here. Off-site linking is NOT permitted.
  • If there is a Group Buy already in the works for a product and you think that you can get better prices, PLEASE CONTACT THE GROUP BUY ORGANIZER PRIVATELY FIRST. DO NOT thread-crap in the Group Buy and DO NOT just start another group buy trying to compete with the one already in the works. NOBODY gains in these situations. It is in everyone's best interest to work together on these things.
  • If you own/operate/work for a business or shop and would like to start a Group Buy, please contact our Sponsorship Officer to discuss Vendor status.
