What Sondra means is that they dont have a place yet. You have to contact Steve or Jamie and they will tell you whos house to show up at and they will do whatever you want them to do. But in case you want to know they are in Oshawa at 410/Brock Rd.

Hey Baldwin.
Don't get me wrong...
Ground Coceptz can get you anything you want at a good rate...
Also, Steve at SW did an amazing job on my Springs...But when it came down to installing my alarm/remote starter, he agreed to both me and Jamie that he "Can" do it...The Outcome after 1 month...Sorry, Can't complete the job and you will have to take it to someone else...and for me to dish out more $$$ to this other company to finish the job....
I paid Steve for the installation price he gave me...and now he said I can't have a refund cause the hours he put in trying to install the alarm/starter.
Hhhhmmmm! Wouldn't any customer be entiled to some sort of reasonable refund if the job was definetly incomplete???
When I spoke to him, he said that $25 refund would re realistic....
MY ASS!!!!! Not once he mentioned prior to the install he would not be able to install it and not once he mentioned there would be extra parts involved and the price may vary...
When I got the quote from him b4, he gave me a Firm rate.!
Again...MY ASS!
So, if you want to get some work done by SW...By all means...go for it...but seeing what I went through...He just made an easy $150 off me...!!!!
Anyone a Lawyer here???
Do I have a case?
Fhemto
October 22nd, 2002, 02:06 PM
I'm not a lawyer (yet?, I don't know lol) but I studied law class and you do have a case. The question comes down to whether if you paid him for the complete installation OR for the labour hour? That's the argument in this scenario. Al, you are arguing for the complete work while he is arguing labour time. So, the question goes back to the verbal agreement. Which one did you two agree upon?
ALS-protege

Hey Baldwin.
We both [Steve and I] agreed on $150 to do the full install...
Jamie from Grounded Conceptz can vouch that as well as he was involved with all the pricing.
On the first day of the install, I paid him in full and did specify that this includes the extra visit for him to complete the install..He said "Yes"...
Dr_sarcasm was with me as well as he was getting work done from him that same time.
From my last conversation over the phone with him last Friday when I requested that I get a refund as he could not complete the job...
Steve's argument was that he said that there may be additional charges as he may need more material to complete it...
This was not stated at all prior to the install..
I told him that if had told me that prior...I would have told him not to do the install...
He said there was poor communication on all 3 parties [Jamie, Steve, and myself]..
I questioned that...as a consumer, when given the price stated prior to the install...that is the price he should have stuck with regardless if there was additional parts needed....
And agian..he did not mention that at all prior...
He used a lame excuse that it is like working on an engine...If parts are required, then the customer will be charged for that...
I argued that engine work differs as engine work usually is the case of wear n tear, where as an alarm installation, it is a brand new install....
Also...By the way he was explaining this to me...I take it that I had to make a 2nd visit to get this done...
Mississauga to Oshawa isn't that close...! So it's time, money and wear n tear on my car that I am wasting...
So after listening to his lame excuse of why he cannot give me a refund, it came down to him only giving me back $25 as he spent a long time on this...Again...he charged me a flat rate...Not Hourly Rate!
So basically he's screwing me around about this...So I'm gonna screw him around when it comes to people asking about doing business with him for thier cars....
Told ya that when I talk about this...I can go on and on about it...
I hope everyone reads this!!!!!!!!

its reasons like this that i think we should have a forum up here about all local shops. one where people can post a shop, and in the thread, post good/bad experiences. maybe we should do this for mods too, as markque's thread on that subject is getting quite a bit of posts.

Now Now.... lets not all go and bomb Oshawa. Steve knows his stuff when it comes to performance, handling, MINOR electrical installs. Installing a car alarm and a STARTER takes a bit more. This is not that simple. What I think is that he just didnt know whats there untill he started working on your car. So basicaly, and this goes for anyone who had anything done to their car by someone doing the install the first time, you were a guinea (sp) pig. I bet next time someone comes to him with a Mazda he will know not to attempt something like that or he already learned what to do to make the whole thing work.
From my experience with him I think he knows his stuff when it comes to Honda Civic. And I do mean it he really does. Mazda im not too sure of. But again.... everyone has to learn... just too bad it was on Alexs car.
Now this being my longest post on this board... I will go out for a nice cold one.

Hey Tom..
I agree with you even though the shit happened to me...
Steve knows his stuff with Mods...Great Mechanic!
But Bad Busniss Ethics on his Part...
But the Whole point of my Frustration was that he confirmed with Me and Jamie[Grounded Conceptz] that he "CAN" do the install...
Who am I to argue to that???
So I expected him to be able to do it...Or give me my Damn Money Back for the Incomplete Install!

This situation has to do with principles and business ethics. From what Alex said, it seems that Steve assured Alex that he can do the installation, and that was why Alex trusted him on installation. If it was Steve's 1st time, he should've told Alex about it.
He should've also mention that if he was unable to install it, that there would be only a 25 dollars refund. But this issue was never brought up because Steve said he can install it.
I'm not on anyone's side, I'm just trying to lean towards the right direction.

Just to jump in here: there is no way Steve can finish the job, as Steve has no clue on how to finish the job - and that lies at the core of Al's frustrations.
Al paid for a service, with a clear expectation i.e. alarm installed to specification (as he was promised - hell, I was there when Steve promised). What Al did not pay for was for Steve to get working on a car with a product that he had no idea on how to completely install (partially install he did - great, even I could have done that).
Can you imagine what would happen if all business was conducted this way??

We need to get back to the basics of reform, revolution and pressure tactics. I'm no Buzz Hargrove, Jimmy Hoffa or Malcolm X, but we the people must take the streets.
We need to make a convey just like the Niagara Cruise and disturb the particular business and make Bristol Board signs to get attention.
That's the problem with this weak ass middle-class morality generation. We lack OPPRESSION. OR AT LEAST SOME OF US.

Tom..
What is happening now is that Steve Consulted to his Contact that does Alarm installs...Steve has now confirmed with me that he will "Not" complete the install himself...What he did was directed me to his Contact that will finish the Alarm only. not the Remote Starter. Also, I would have to pay that company an additional $100 for materail and parts....
I asked about the remote starter...Steve came back to me saying that they will not install it as it is Illegal to install remote starters on Manual transmission vehicles...And they do not want to be liable if they were to install it.
He also said that "there is no shops that installs remote starters on manual transmission vehicles"
I told him that when I did my research, I found 2 Legit company's that is willing to complete the job and willing to give me a receipt as well, meaning that they are responsible for the install.
He said "he would like to see it done to beleive it"
So that leaves me in the dark to find someone to do the remote starter. Which will cost me additional $$$....

See now thats BS. All shops will install the started on 5spd. Its a bitch to isntall as well as to activate (push break pedal 3 times while shifting into nutral and then open and close doors three time, u know what i mean). So at this point it is a very bad part on Steve. He should have known what he is getting into and should at least give yo the $ back for the install. Now im with yo\u 100% http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I have also heard that there is not legal shop that will install a starter on a manual car. If you go to any "ortharized" dealer you will get the same response. I believe it is because to be ourtharized you can only install ourtharized products and there is a strick guidline to what you can install. A remote car starter on a manual car is not legit. Many people will install them and giving you a reciept cause you did buy it, but they are not taking legal responsibilty for the install. No one wil as it is not safe to have that equipment on a manual car.
However, there is no reason why the company in question can not refund the money. The job was for two separate installs one for Starter one for Alarm. in my eyes only half of one of these jobs was completed to the customers satisfaction. Therefore the moral solution would be for only a partial payment of HALF of the install money should be given. Therefore 150 for install75 per piece of equipment. resonable concensus should be say 50 bucks if that. If the alarm doesn't work the install is useles..
I do sympathise with you as it is really bullshit what some people do and try to get away with. I do hope that you can resolve your situation.
