I was wondering if I should get my ECU flashed since I have done some upgrades. Does the dealer charge for this, or is it possible to have them do it when I take it in for an oil change? I have heard that once the ECU is flashed you tend to get better performance from mods, is this true?

what you want to do is reset your ECU. This involves disconnecting your ground on your battery and tapping your brakes. After that you are good to go.
Re-flash is for the MSP that have hestiation issues and there is one for 2002 P5s for cold rattle startup.

Ah... So I do want this then! I have an 02 and it rattles like hell when it's cold.

Me too. I made an appointment today at DWM to do the oil change and stuff in a few weeks. I am going to ask them to do that when I am there...
It should only take a couple of minutes, I hope.

Let me know how it goes. I don't need another oil change for like 3000km still, so maybe I'll wait till then.

what about the 03 P5? do they need the flash? or just the disconnection of the battery is fine?

I think the 03's have the cold start flash.
If you want to reset your ECU, just disconnect the negative terminal on the battery and pump your brakes a few times.
I will let you know how I make out with the flash Joe

Joe, the flash can be done at the dealers at no cost. It's under warranty. Although it is to fix the cold weather rattle, you will not notice much of a difference with the flash. I had mine done last year and there was barely a difference. But it's free and I had it done one day when I took it in for an oil change.

Well, I got my ECU flashed on Sat. at Westowne Mazda. It seems like it did help the cold rattle issue. This morning when I started the car I checked for it, since it was cold, and it was barely noticeable. http://ib2.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif
