i just blew a stock h7 bulb. wtf. this is the 4th bulb i've had go on me in the past 2 months. first was a piaa, then swapped both out for eurolite.. one went, other on the smae day.. then said screw it and thru the stocks in. all was good for weeks and today i turn lights on and only one comes on. the only thing i've noticed the past few days is that i get alot of shocks on my car. not only do i get 'em touching the doors but i get them sometimes on teh seatbelt connector when i'm putting the seatbelt in.

i have the hypergrounding kit from lockdown, and a sub/amp but everything seemsgrounded pretty good. any suggestions? i have no idea how to solve this http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

Is it always the drivers side bulb??

I've notice many P5's with the drivers side bulb out. Mine burnt out and I had it replaced under waranty. I was at 45000 km.

It was probably just a freak occurance with the stock bulb. Maybe you touched it or scratched it putting it in.

Get it replaced, then see what happens!

They're not under warranty are they?

I'm gonna get my PIAA bulbs replaced under warranty soon. Just seems wierd that i've gone thru 4 bulbs across 3 different makes in such a short amount of time. and is it normal to get a shock from the seatbelt clamp?

it was the passenger side that went. From waht I can remember, it hasn't always been the passenger side that goes out. hmm maybe it has i dunno http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

yeah, i have gotten a few shock from the seat beat clumps too, even with the grounding kit. it all depends what type of clothes u wear. i noticed if u wear fleece, prepare to get a big shock when getting in and out of the car, and when u put on ur seat belt.

Wierd...

Eurolites seem to blow out at about 8 months on me. But it's been random as to which side blows out first. I've tried another bulb called NG-Tec and they only last a little over a month so needless to say, I'm back with Eurolites. But when I get back in a little under 2 months I tink I"ll switch to either the Litechs or Silverstars.

I find this rather weird. I have heard alot of ppl on this board complaining about their bulbs blowing. I have never had this problem (knocks on wood), I used my stock bulbs for about 1 year and then switched to Osram Cool Blues and they have been in for about a year now without any problems as well. I have 3 amps in my car and so far so good, so I don't think it has anything to do with that. I was wondering if you guys that are having this problem all have the grounding kit installed? There must be some reason behind this.

I have had cheap after market bulbs blow on me after about 8 months without a grounding kit installed.

I haven't had my stocks blow yet (knock on wood). I really dont see how a grounding kit would cause this to happen, you are just lowering the electrical resistance to engine components.

It sounds as though there is a short in the lighting system somwhere, or the simplest explaination (probably the mose likely) is that you had a bad run with some crappy bulbs, and encountered a coincedence with the stock one blowing. All this changing of the bulbs may be creating an issue if they are not stored correctly, coming in contact with your hands or have scratches on them.

well i've never touched any bulbs i've put in. of course they will touch the headlight harness a bit as i'm putting them in (can't really help that unless you've got some tiny stealh ninja hands.. mine are chubby and clumsy i guess LOL)

isnt it because those aftermarket bulbs draw more wattage than the stock ones do?

I just replaced my passenger side OEM low beam bulb @ 17,200k at the dealer.I have no grounding kit or amps (yet) so I hope its not an electrical issue with our cars?

well i guess i'll visit the dealer and get my bulb replaced (if it's under warranty that is.. i'm not paying for an overpriced OEM bulb).

yeah i sure hope it isn't. but i have noticed a TON of cars with one burnt bulb lately, maybe the crazy changes in temps?

all the aftermarkets i've tried (eurolite, PIAA) draw 55w, same as oem. I'm not risking melting anything by using a bulb spec'd higher than 55w.

with all the lights you bought, you probably could've bought half of a real HID kit

Just a thought!!

Do you use your hand brake. If you don't and you start your car you have a power fluctuation. http://ib2.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif I blew many headlights that way(mainly drivers side). After I started applying my hand brake, before staring the car, I never blew another. This is all to do with the daylight running lights system.

This is just a thought and I'm not stating a definate fact. It's just that it worked for me.

Very interesting. I use my handbrake all the time because I drive manual, but I usually take it off before I start my car.

interesting point! Sometimes i'll disengage my ebrake before starting the car. i'm trying to get into the routine of doing ebrake, lights, then shut car off and the opposite when starting it up.
