Hi everyone.
I put up a fast page about my ractive intake install, but I plan on making a better page with instructions, hints&tips, etc. Anyone have specific tips they would like to share? I will credit the info to the person who submitted it. Photos or text is appreciated. Post here or send to schrumby@hotmail.com
Here's the site so far......

Hey I think that's pretty easy to follow and there are plenty of pics to referance from. But I think the best way to figure out if it's easy to follow is to actually have someone to follow it while installing their intake http://toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
was it easy putting your new speakers in?

Yeah, it was pretty easy to put the speakers in. I chose speakers that would fit the best, though. This summer I'm gonna maybe upgrade to better quality (but harder to install though). I'll see how it sounds when I put my amp and subs in.

Maybe you could have Chopstick help you out with the bracket. I hear he has some good tips.

Andrew,
I thought you were gonna use that gator grip thing?
if that thing doesn't work try using this thing:
http://www.canadiantire.ca/media/images/Workshop/MechanicsTools/Wrenches/AdjustableWrenches/0588311_450_CC_12a2e.jpg
it's called boa grip or something
get it at candian tire....
i hear it can undo everything from jars, to stripped bolts, screws, slippery stuff.... etc.....
if you need help with the bracket don't hesitate to ask

Did you break the bold head right off?
WeeBieP5
April 14th, 2002, 07:16 PM
nah
didnt break it off, just rounded it,so i cant really get any grip with any of my sockets, they just slip. Turns out my buddy didnt have one of those grip sockets so i havent had a chance to try it yet. I have one of those boa grip things, but there is no where near enough room to get at the bolt with it.

Hey guys&girls, heres a link to my pics on the new bracket placement for the Ractive Intakes:
http://communities.msn.ca/wrpfctr6/shoebox.msnw?Page=2
there's 4 pics on the bracket positioning...
the intake is actually positoned a little closer to the engine and aims down instead of to the side...the metal coolant bottle bracket had to be bent downwards as well to allow the to be aimed down....hope this helps you all!
as well, on pages 4 & 5 show my new interior and my new neons and sidemarkers! was hard to get a proper photo of the neons, had to shut off the flash...
hope the link works...

The neons look good.
try taking a pic out of the way of the headlights maybe the neons would show up a little better.

Hey raymond, thanks for the pics! I'm gonna do mine tonight since the weather's so damn nice.
Now that I see it, it makes perfect sense. If it's only attached to the engine, it will move freely with the engine.... before it was half attached to the engine, and half attached to a stationary nut.

How low will the filter go in the engine bay??? like if i set mine up like that, will i have any reason to worry about sucking up water???

the new position of the filter shouldn't be a problem...the AEM short ram aims into the same area....it's still protected by the radiator...and there's a splash shield at the bottom..

hey raymond i cant get my intake to fit like they did in your pictures (with the filter facing more down). It just doesnt seem to fit, the filter just ends up hitting/rubbing up again the fan shroud. Seems like the second peice of piping is just to long.
ChopstickHero
April 25th, 2002, 10:09 PM
andrew, that's exactly what it is. the second tubing that holds the intake filter is longer than the Ractive kits that are coming out now. Ractive is making adjustments every month. I bought mine less than a month ago, and it's already changed in design. well, they're small design changes, but after a few months, the design would be better than the original ones. I think protege5girl has one of the originals... her intake piping is even longer than mine.

That sucks! Mine's is also too long to do what raymond did..... it rubs against the rad. Raymond.... any way to exchange the pipe that is too long (the one ractive modified in the new kits)?
Nice to know they didn't finish (or fine-tune) the design before selling it. Watch out.... they'll have a bracket that fits perfectly soon probably http://toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif
...just had to get that off my chest http://toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

sorry guys...i noticed even on Jeff's car (Toucan guinea pig) that his goes all the way to the front as well since his is one of the original prototypes...they have two brackets on his!
somehow there are even changes in the Protege5s themselves....cause our technician Steve notices that it's different all the time....of course the auto and 5speed versions are different in the engine bay anyway...AEM actually makes 2 different models for each tranny type....
guess it's gonna take a bit of customizing to put these intakes in properly in each car! i know it's frustrating sometimes.........atleast there are intakes available for you guys..my 626 is still waiting......... http://toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

yeah..... the ractive intakes (although given a bad reputation b/c of it's cheesy products before), are a good value. they work well, fit kinda well, and seem to be improving in quality.
maybe that's why Ractive wants to change their name to something else ... to escape the bad reputation as being a cheap aftermarket company. http://toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif
i just wonder how long it'll be before a CAI comes out from them! lol .... http://toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

that sucks that they keep changing it. seems kinda stupid, should have been perfected before it was even released instead of doin changes now cuz everyone that ought one before the changes is gonna be pissed. Just like me http://toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

Chopstick Mike, you can get the extension kit for your Ractive intake. I have seen them and I think they are still available. I recall seeing a spout-like cover that goes onto the mouth of the heatshield and an attachment pipe that can be connected to the lower duct pipe. That will give your intake a CAI effect.
