That is the proper way to disable the DRL's.

i am aware of that method. i also read on another post by rcbear and he said that all you would need to do is unplug a wire. and i was hoping for a method that doesn't involve cutting wires.

Although I HAVE DONE THIS in my 1st gen Protege, noone seems to look into the fact that there should be a DRL RELAY that you can just UNPLUG and VOILA! No DRLs!
I know it hasn't been done, but if it's possible it's much easier than doing it the other ways suggested.
I guess people just like to do things the hard way... http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/dontgetit.gif

I looked into it and hence the How-To I wrote up. http://msg.toprotege.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=33;t=7821
There is no DRL relay or Fuse you can just pull out.
The DRL module connects the e-brake warning, low brake fluid warning, DRLs, fogs, high and low beam lights. If you disconect the module you will not have use of all those things except the brake warning light.
As for the "pull out the wire and disable the DRL" I don't know. The wire RCbear is talking about is probably the Black/Yellow stripe that comes from the ignition.
I never tried to just diable the DRL. I looked for a way to have the fogs on without the headlights and/or the DRLs.

If you pull out the center handrest you will see a wire attached to the parking brake, take out the small black piece and the spring out, then tape the end of the wire (gold metal piece) with the parking brake metal piece. Done!!! PM me if you have any further questions. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Sweet, if you looked it up, that's good w/me...this came up about a year ago on protegeclub.com and I mentioned the relay to the guy asking. He was an assclown though so I didn't believe him...
Thanks for the info!

Mike,
Sometimes older cars are so much easier to work on, eh?
You want something to stop working? Just pull the fuse! My CRX was the same way, just pull the fuse and done.
Now they have all these new regulations to follow... pha!
Give me old school tech in a new car please!

Has anyone looked into rewiring the lights so that the DRL become the highbeam instead? cause i was looking into that idea but i wouldn't know where to start.

I would re-wire it to come on with the park lights, not the high beams.
1. they would probably burn out in no time
2. they would be on all the time day or night, or you would have to wire it so if you turn on your headlights, the high beams turn off
3. the would have to be rewired so they are not on at full power, even during the day, high beams are anoying
....
there is just too much to list.
Just disconect your DRL,and turn your park lights on all the time.

Well i figured if i am gonna do something might as well not just stop 1/2 way through it... since if i wanted to properly disable the DRL i would need to do a few cutting of the wires, and then i would have to drive with parking brakes. i decided why not see if i can just rewiring the whole thing and make it operate normally except the DRL is the high beams at a lower power and everything else would be kept the same.

Im gonna take someones advice and put an on/off swith on the wire I relocated, that way at night when I have my headlights on anyways, I can switch it, and the parking brake light will go off.
