I was once again pissed off as the Tim Hortons hot chocolate slightly tipped over when I was cornering. It seems as if large fastfood drink containers are not held snug in my console.
I've been done in by slurpees, supersized beverages from burger joints, coffee's and hot chocolates. Even my stainless steel mug tips when I corner.
It is a good thing I have the PantSaver car mats which can trap a litre of liquid, but the sticky spillage still pisses me off and my lost beverage makes me angry.
Does this happen to anyone? http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif
Ghetto Concepts Performance Trends is now in the process of a home made mod to counteract this problem. I will demo it out to selected members of my choice.

All the friging time! I enjoy large ice TEas at Mic Dicks...but i have to snuggle it under the lip just over the heating knobs to prevent it from sliding!

they're not the greatest but they're somewhat functional. I personally haven't lost any fluids to them, but it may be because I don't take every corner at 60Km in first gear with one hand on the wheel and the other grabbing my hat as it flys out the sunroof..................simple solution. put smaller drinks in the left cupholder and save the big one for superslurpies. If you have a passenger and its really a problem, tell them to hold their own friggin drink or they'll wear it.
Tim Horton's, Subway, McDonald's, I always use the left cupholder with no problems. you know whats really annoying? juggling 5 coffees for lazy people back at work while shifting and driving out of tim hortons parking lot. without spilling. with the cellie ringin....

The '03 cup holders are great - my ss mug loves it. But I never had any trouble with my '02 and spillage.
I'm with Jika - we have to respect our drinks and modify our driving habits accordingly. I didn't take corners on two wheels. And for juggling beverages and driving while shifting - no problem. Oh wait, that's cuz I got the auto.
Anyone see the cup holders for the rear passengers Mazda is selling? They seem to clip onto the centre console. For $145, I don't think they'll be selling too many.

03bluP5,... is it true that you had a '02 P5,... and traded it in for a '03 model?

i wonder if there's anyway to switch out the center console (the plastic holding the cup holders, shifter area, and arm rest thing) for a newer one. I remember cruisinblackp5 mark took off his whole center area to do some wiring. it's just one long piece of plastic. if the 03 version uses the same clips and screws, i'm pretty sure it can be done.
for those of you who really really hate their cupholders, ask Raymond or Mazdaspeed (Alan) to get a price quote !

In a word, yes.
About popping out the old cupholder and replacing it with new, possibly. With the auto, the whole top area looks different. Not long ago, when I still had my '02, I asked my dealer about this and was told they did not yet have '03 parts prices. I would assume it's expensive, since adding two rear cupholders is $145.

My driving habit with a drink are pretty good, It is the SUPERSIZED DRINKS, Slurpees AND XL drinks at Timmies which pose a problem.
Ghetto Concepts & Performance Trends is developing a cure!!!

Oversize drinks go in the RIGHT cupholder, thats why that extra ring is gouged out of the plastic.
CarDemon suggestion for your GCPT solution: Go get that antislip stuff from Wal-mart and line the inside of your cupholder with it? It should prevent your cup from sliding around (the smaller ones), while decreasing the inside diameter of the holder thus ensuring a tighter fit around your drink..
Why do I get the feeling someone is going to make a (dr_)sarcastic remark to this post....

It is not so much the traction or lack thereof inside the cupholder, it is the depth which is shallow in comparison to the oversized drink.
The weight or volume of liquid and its ctr roll of gravity in a long cylindrical tube, make the sway factor more 'tippy' if there is such a word. I'm gonna go to a website and post the reviews as I was not the only one to complain about this feature which got revised on the 2003 or so I heard.
