Question for the techies of the club.

>How do you disconnect the automatic power locking feature on 3rd gens.

If all the doors are unlocked, after 1 min or so, the doors automatically lock.

Can I disconnect a wire or something?

Lets just say, even though the key is in the ignition and the car has been started and running, the door still locks!
That is a fucked up system!!

Any help would be appreciated!

My car doesn't do this. Must have been added after 2000?

I've seen cars that will automatically lock the doors once the car is put in gear, as a safety measure I guess.

I would suspect that any wires you could disconnect would completely disable the power locks. If I'm not mistaken the door locks have a 2-wire plug and probably feeds +12v for open and -12v for lock, or something.

You could try asking Jeff (LockdownP5) -- he is an expert on the electrical systems in the 3rd gens and frequently installs aftermarket keyless entry, alarms and starter systems, all of which would need to tap into the door lock wiring.

Rich....

Sounds like you LOCKED yourself out of a running car http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif , My power locks do not do this, but I have had an aftermarket alarm installed and when it was installed I told them not to program this feature.(auto lock)

You could always keep an extra key under your fender in one of those magnetic cases for when you start your car up and need to let it idle....Just kidding Rich

Talk to Lockdown...he'll help ya out

I've never heard of automatic door-locks locking once the ignition is turned on. In some cars the doors lock once the car is in gear, but this does not happen on the protege. As far as I know the only way the doors lock automatically on the stock keyless entry system is if you press the unlock button, and do NOT get into the car within a minute or so, then it will relock.

Yeah, Nick.... that happened to me Thursday night when I was going home from work. I said to myself. This isn't supposed to happen!!! The car is running. That should shut off any automatic features like that.

Had to call home and my dad came over and opened up my door.

Talk about a stupid feature. It's never happened before. Could it be faulty?

The car must have been idling for about at least 35 mins. Not good.. but it seems to be running fine. Whos knows what happened internally. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif
