Guys/gals,
How many of you are planning to use an alternate car for the winter? I know Kurt plans to...but are any of you?
I've never owned two cars at the same time, so i have yet to do it. What are your reasons, if any in switching?
just a question.
BTW....my civic is relatively modded and it has a great set of winter tires. I would most probably work on the P5; some engine stuff over the winter.

My advice.
Rice the Civic.
Drive the SUV in the winter.
LOL
Besides engine work on the P5 do the TPC a favour and stop embarassing us. Drop the car (and I think I have said it 9 times now - getting annoying?) LOL
I drive my P5 year round cause I don't really care all that much about the salt, plus I bought the car for the utility of the hatch.
If your Civic is reliable (and what Honduh isn't) then drive it! Will your insurance let you switch back and forth between the two?

some how i can't see someone buying a car of similar value to drive around as a beater when the car they have is just as good........after all if i wanted a car for the summer only, i would have bought a porsche or something of that nature........and besides jay, you're P5-SUV mod should be awesome for the winter months.......no snow hill will be too big for your P5........all you'd need is 4-wheel drive and you'd be set..........hahahaha

You have a civic?! http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif secret is revealed! http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
For winter driving, pending which car you like more, drive the one you like least, aka, the civic.

okay......bums....I don't like the springs and coilovers that where available this summer.....that is why I have yet to lower my car!!!!!!!!! http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
If you insist.....this coming spring I will either be sporting the JIC FLT-A2 or with SRR. Patience is a virtue. I've learned my lesson; purchase the things you want and not to purchase just anything in the market.....

Oh so Jay now you are telling me that I bought springs for my car that you think are not good enough for your SUV? What is up with you recently and your attitude with flaming other members on this board.
Just cause your car is cooler than mine doesn't mean crapola.
So what if you car is so high that while driving you can stare down the top of the soccer mom who is driving in the mini van next to you?
So what if that black lip on your car makes it look even higher and meaner?
So what if your fuel pressure regulator, intake, and exhaust are of high quality, technologically supreme China manufacture?
So what if your interior and engine bay are so nasty you don't need a security system?
So what if your stock stereo system is in mint JDM/OEM spec from the Mazda Japan factory?
So what if you never clean your car and still land chicks like Frances?
None of the above means that your car or you are better than mine or me. Quite frankly a lot of the club mates are PMing each other behind your back saying how much you suck at organizing group buys. Just thought you should know.

Haha, good clean fun. Jason, I know some guys at tire shops in Hamilton, so I might be able to get you a deal on some Firestone Wilderness ATs for your SUV. Also, I'm sure if we do enough looking, we can find you a 90-91 AWD Protege, to do the full conversion for you. When you realize that SUVs offer no advantage in the winter, than a front-wheel-drive car, you can always pack it away for the winter, and buy Mike-Moss' 93 SE for a beater. And I emphasize beater....oops, I'm sorry, that might be taken the wrong way. I love you Mike_Moss, will you marry me? http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/inlove.gif

I'm sure Jason would have bought the same springs as us Dave if he wasn't sure that it would rub.
Jasons put himself in a bind sortof cause he needs to find the proper suspention that he can adjust over those huge rims!
Jason Drive the P5...it's not a Porshe or anything...it's an econobox that looks wicked! enojoy the car. We are still young guys who are right in the part of our life where promotions and Raises start arizing. Who knows you might get a 20 000 raise by next August...then you could use your P5 as a winter beater(it's high enough...LOL) and drive a M3 for summer!

i wish.....but I'm gonna talk to my boss right now about that raise. let you know how it goes.

P5 all year round man....don't worry Jay...we'll find springs for our cars come springtime! But in the end it's whatever YOU feel more comfortable driving and what YOU can afford... http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Oh and I wish my car had AWD for all my drives up to snow country...waaaaaaaay up north to visit the folks.

Hey Jason if youre worried about insurance my insurance company has a plan where they insure youre winter beater for about 6 months, you switch back to the summer car before that and they just switch you back to your regular plan. If you still have payments on the car then youre required to put fire and theft on the car if i remember correctly.
I will be saving approx. $600+ in insurance costs over the 6 months, plus i can put crappy gas like Beaver Gas in my car - mmmmmmm Beaver Gas!!!!
The other reasons for putting my car away is so I can work on the thing in my garage, have a few plans for mine - hopefully dropping it - also cant stand the salt all i did was cringe last year every time i took the car out. I also wracked one of my winter rims when i skidded into a curb, luckily didnt touch the body so that was a warning.
Heads up to anyone getting a winter beater, DO NOT switch your plates off your P5 and onto your winter beater, that is officially de-comissioning your car and means in the spring you will need to cert. your car before you put it back on the road.
I'll have pics of my winter car on here by tonight!

i sure hope it don't come around here.. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif
and if anyone wants a quick way to lower you car...
1) Go to Home Depot in the Building Materials area
2)Go to the Cashier and buy 15 bags of concrete
3) Put the concrete in your pro....making sure to spread the wieght around so that the pro is lowered evenly
and there you have it...three easy steps to lower your pro...and for only$50.....added traction TOO http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif
