This morning when I got into my car to goto work I noticed that my HU didn't come on. I have a Kenwood Excelon indash touchscreen DVD/TV unit. I checked out all the fuses and found all of them to atleast appear to be fine. I wonder if it had anything do with washing my car last night. This morning everything was frozen soild, and I had to fight with the doors to get them to open! The last thing I did was wash the car, and I remember listening to a cd on the way home. I parked my car and went in, got in it this morning and it's not working!! http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/bs.gif

Do you remember if the HU had a fuse itself?. do you hear it power on at all?. sounds like a power issue, may need to crack out the old volt meter.

if it's bitter cold, i try not to turn on my electronics equipment until the interior is close to being warm. especially when it comes to my LCD screen. not good to have those things warm up through using it. warm it up before use.

did it finally work? or is it still not working?

I never flip up the LCD until it is warmed. I am going to pull it out after work and check it out, I think there might have been a fuse right in the back of the unit, I think like 5A or something like that. Just pisses me off that this happened, I wanted to watch the news on the way to work http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif . If that's not the answer I'll be without it for a good 2-3 weeks while it goes in for warrenty http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif .

haha!
Sounds like kenwood quality at it's best. This is one of the reasons I had the deck in my MSP replaced, I don't remember if that was the 2nd or 3rd time though...

EDIT: Sorry, I don't mean the "haha" to sound like I'm laughing at you, I just think it's funny that your HU is doing what mine did.

No offense taken. I think I remember reading your post about your HU. This is the first time I have had a problem with Kenwood to be honest, and I've had atleast 4-5 HUs by them. Maybe it's something in the newer models? This was one reason I stuck with them, the others being that it had a built in TV tuner, and higher resolution then many others at the time.

I had a kenwood in my last car, and it was problem free for 2.5 years, then I sold the car.
I think the problems MSP owners have been having are because Kenwood supplied Mazda with "factory seconds" or refurbs for these cars. This is based on something I heard when the dealer was replacing mine the last time "they sent us a new one this time" he told me.

Got it working again! http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif During my lunch I changed the fuses and pressed the tiny little reset button, and it came on. Maybe there was a hairline split in one of the fuses, not sure by looking at them, but hey it's working again!
