How come you have to replace it? What happened? Is it a recall?

Sounds like the same problems I have, but my dealership said my clutch parts were fine. Maybe I'll get them to check it again.

Thanks for letting us know the problem Nick! http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Hope it gets fixed quickly for you!

Clutch assembly, pressure plate, clutch disc and throwout bearing. Unless its auto, in which case, to the best of my knowledge, it is a a group of flat metal discs some of them have teeth on the inside, the others on the outside, the sit beside each other in a "pack" (Internal tooth, external tooth, internal, external etc........)and they are pressed together by hydraulic pressure and a bunch of other things that I forget now.

Question???
If this happened to others that switched to the TWM Shortshifter....We're pretty much screwed cause we just voided our warranty???
Do correct me if I'm wrong...

Knock on wood that it doesn't happen to me...!

I don't have that shortshifter...so i'm not worried. Personally i don't really see it Voiding your Warrenty

The dealership has to prove that your aftermarket part is what created the problem...and since you are a Toronto Protege member...you've got 500+ plus people to watch out to make sure these dealerships don't rip us young good looking peope off. I wouldn't worry!

I don't think that a short shifter would really contribute to clutch problems. I've heard alot of things that short shifters, do however contribute to the early demise of transmission synchronizers though, apparently, first and second are affected the worst. I'm kinda wondering why myself, could someone elaborate??

I think its similar to braking, in terms of wearing down the syncros. If your gentle on your brakes, obviously your pads will last longer. Adding a short shifter essentially slams the syncromesh into the collar (im not sure if that is mazda's design), lke slamming on your brakes. Slam brakes, stop faster, eat pads. Slam shifter, shift faster, eat syncros. Just putting it into perspective.
