also what kind of filters do you guys use.  I inherited laziness genes from some damn bastard down the line so I just get Avante to change my oil for 5 bucks (plus the Mazda filter and gasket).  I get a special "discount" on Mobil 1 Tri-Syn  http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif  that I supply.  Just wondering if there is any real benefit of using a Fram or Quaker State filter over the Mazda one.

I use the Fram filter with Formula1 10W30 oil and change my oil around every 5000 clicks. costs me a total of like 15 bucks to do it myself, rather then 20, 25, or even i've seen 30-35 to do oil changes.

I'm suprized that most of the people in this club change their old at 5000.
8000 for me i looked at my oil just before i take it in for an oil change and it's crystal (yellow/gold) got to love it...if i see it turning black i'll shorten my oil change intervals!

I change mine every 5000, because I start to feel guilty, and thats just what I was brought up to do.
I don't do it myself so I use whatever oil and filter that the place uses.

6,000km here.

Just habit.

I use Motomaster filters cause I do it myself and they've always worked for me in the past. My old Civic had 500,000km on the original engine with the same filters!! (Edit: Same brand, obviously the filter was changed every 6,000km).

I'm the same as Homer... 8000k's or 4 months... I change my own oil everytime except for once during the winter months, then I take it to Wallymart for Oil/Filter and nothing else. I have been using the oem mazda filters and 5w30 Pennzoil all year round.

Oil will start to look dirty within a month or so. Just because it's dirty doesn't mean it's not good. The only thing oil looses is it's additives.

I goto WAL-MART for all my oiling needs (automotive or personal lubricant).

I pick up Mobil 1 (cause I'm rich) and a Fram filter (I just stare across the shelf and pick the smallest one and it is always the right one - PH6007 I believe).

I do the oil every 8000kms and do an engine flush every third oil change.

My old car I always changed at 5K, so I've been doing the same with my P5. Mobil 1 Tri-Syn 10W30 (5W30 in winter, next oil change). I was thinking about changing it next at 16K which would be a 6K change, which lines it up again with Mazda's scheduled maintenance and going to 8K after that.

and here's something thats pissed me off... Last oil change I forgot to get back my half litre of oil like I usually do. well i checked my oil at the gas station the other day and it looks like its over the F line. If the Avante tech overfilled my crankcase, should I be having a word with them? I'm making sure next time before I leave the dealership that my oil is right at full. That oil is kinda clear when its fresh which may make it a bit difficult to read but the tech should know that the case only holds 3.5 litres with a new filter.....

I've only had my car two months, but I just did an oil change. I have a warrenty that stipulates that I must change it every 3 months, or 5000km, and it must be done at a shop, or it voids my warrently. I had Castrol Syn-tec, and a Fram filter put in. I plan on changing the oil myself after one year...

I use Mobil 1 too. But I don't use Fram filters. I dunno, read too many horror stories about Fram filters in recent years to trust them. I use OEM filters. Of course it is MHO only... http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/inlove.gif
