I may be behind the times but reading through November Car&Driver and In the comparison test of Economy 4-doors the Pro was 1st! Protege LX best out:
-Dodge Neon SXT
-Ford Focus SE
-Honda Civic LX (we always knew we were better than Hondas :>)
-Hyundai Elantra GLS
-Kia Spectra LS
-Mitsubishi Lancer O-Z Racing
-Nissan Sentra GXE
-Suzuki Aerio GS
-Toyota Corolla LE

Car and driver always chose proteges over the competition..

Back wheni bought my 96 protege, car and driver ranked it number one out of 8.. but it beat the civic by 1 point..

Protege killed teh civic in braking...
