Nice pics Joe!
Your car is looking good.
Something as simple as tinting makes a huge difference to the overall look of the car.
Does your tint have any metallic fibres in it? or is it straight dye? how much was it at FX and is it for lifetime guarantee?

Richard: $240 tax-in (cash). I was there yesterday and that's what Wayne said. I'm getting mine done next week.

May 12th, 2002, 10:25 AM
Hmm...$240... it's a little high, but I'm sure the quality is there and it is lifetime warranty right..
My dealer referred me to the guy that does the tinting for all their cars. He said $200 cash and it's the metallic fibre material.. so I'm not sure. FX is well known, and I've never heard of this guy before... so maybe I should go with FX..
I'm going to call Wayne and see when he can get me in...
Thanks for the info Dinu

Yeah sorry guys, couldn't make it to the meet saturday... working most of the day.
mine was $250 tax in, and it's the "1/2 metallic" tint. Don't think I would have liked the Premuim (100% metallic) on my red P5, it's like a mirror.... Looks good on marks car (silver) but probably not other colours.
The $250 (tax in, cash) includes the lifetime warranty. They did my moonroof too, but not sure if that's included normally in the $250.
Having a tint really changes how the car looks. It looks much nicer. I've noticed more head-turning when I'm passing cars now.... hehehe.

Listen, I heard that there is no LEGAL limit to tinting, and that it is up to the cops "discretion", any truth to this?

The discration is to the cop, the cop has to be able to see if you have long hair or short hair, or if you wearing a hat. if they cannot then you will get pulled over. This only applies to the front doors, the rest does not matter.

Okay, can I ask why you would post one cop's opinion as dead fact to law?
The "rule" you just posted was based on one poster's discussion with a cop. That was what that one guy used to determine whether or not he thought you were too dark. I doubt very much that if another cop pulled you over, and ticketed you for having tint too dark, you could look at him and say... "But, but, but... you can SEE MY HAT!!!!"
That's like getting pulled over for going 5km over the limit and saying ,"But, but, but... you don't REALLY ticket until I'm 10km over!!!"
Until someone can post a direct quote regarding the Highway Traffic and Safety Act law on tinting, I wouldn't assume anything is legal/illegal.

I tinted my ES today. Looks really good! As for the law, 35% is the max allowed by law in Ontario. Any tint shop will tell you that. There was a guy there today that wanted 20$ for all his windows and he was advised to go 35% on the front ones. FX said they would tint it 20%, but there are good chances he will get pulled over...

I asked a friend of mine who works for Peel. He says that its compeltely up to the cops discretion....right now they don't have a way to test what % you have. Some will ticket if like sameer said..they can't see you too well (for their own safety....), and others will put a business card on the insdie of the window and if they can't read it clearly will ticket you. Some will shine a lite on the window....
Same goes for muffler noise...discretion of the cop. And if you get a ticket FIGHT IT.
Anyway I asked him a few months back, maybe the laws on this have changed?

Here's an excerpt of the highway act, the most important part being at the bottom of this post (the paragraph in bold).....
Ontario Highway Traffic Act (edited for space:)
Signs, objects, etc., obstructing view prohibited:
73. (1) No person shall drive a motor vehicle upon a highway,
(a) with any sign, poster or other non-transparent material or object placed on the windshield or on any window of such motor vehicle; or
Colour coating obstructing view prohibited:
(2) No person shall drive a motor vehicle upon a highway where the surface of the windshield or of any window of the vehicle has been coated with any colour spray or other colour coating in such a manner as to obstruct the driver's view of the highway or any intersecting highway.
Colour coating obscuring interior:
(3) No person shall drive on a highway a motor vehicle on which the surface of the windshield or of any window to the direct left or right of the driver's seat has been coated with any coloured spray or other coloured or reflective material that substantially obscures the interior of the motor vehicle when viewed from outside the motor vehicle.
SOURCE (http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/DBLaws/Statutes/English/90h08_e.htm) (it's about half way down the page)
Looks like it's definately up to the cops what's allowed and what's not allowed.

May 16th, 2002, 07:41 AM
yup....it is the "substantially obscures the interior of the motor vehicle when viewed from outside" that leaves it wide open for the cops to decide if they wanna bend you over and do things to you that yo mamma doesn't wanna know about!
Bottom line...if a cop wants to ticket you, he will, then it is up to YOU to prove him wrong...and as far as that goes GOOD LUCK!!! (the only hope you have is if the cop doesn't show up to court)
I got 35% all around my car, knowing damn well combining the way I drive like an idiot, with some of the other mods on my car, I don't need any more reason for a cop to be pissed at me (if you want a good example of this, look at what happend to Sondra a while back, now if she had Tax's tint, she woulda went home with a receipt I can almost guarantee it!http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif...but these kind of tickets are usually only given if A) the cop is REALLY ANAL, or B) he didn't like the way you were driving but couldn't really nail you for anything else, so I say F*ck it, play the game so you can't lose!

Well, I did it!
Got my tint done today! 35% on the sides and 20% on the back! Premier film ofcourse. $240 cash w/ receipt.
At first I thought it was a little high, but then I said, hey, it's a good investment because it will last a long time and I intend on keeping my car for quite a while!
Wayne @ FX was really great yesterday when I went over to see him. He was totally helpful and answered all my questions, and a couple that he couldn't, he actually called his supplier to find out for me which was good!
Anyways, I recommend him to everyone interested in getting tint done on their ride!

Called FX and mentioned that I am part of the Toprotege club. I asked what is the rate for us members to get tint done at thier shop...
Lady on phone said
$250+ tax...
Not a great price for us members by a sponsored vendor for this club.
Others may differ my 2 cents.
No Prob!
I guess I will look elsewhere...
Any other suggestions?

Hey guys,
I'm looking at getting mine tinted as well. But is it alright to tint it at this weather? wouldn't it bubble?
Because if there's really no difference, then I might as well get it done too

$250 is a good price. You can go some places and get it cheaper but you pay for quality film. Before I got my tint done I did a shitload of research on different tint films and how they install them. I founf that the Formula One tint film they use at FX is an excellent quality film, better than the SolarGuard and SunGuard you find at most other tint shops. Also you want to make sure that when they do your back wiondow they use only one film and not 2 otherwise you might see some gaps. Remember you get what you pay for. $250 is great for quality film and excellent installation.
E-Diddy - In most cases you will see some bubbles after installation. They go away in a couple days, a little bit longer if really cold outside. I did mine when it was -25 everyday, it took about a week for everything to clear up.

I take it this means that the moonroof has no sliding cover for when its not in use like the Civics do?
Ack, means I am gonna have to get dark dark tint on that as I need the vehicle to be dark inside.
There is a plce here in Burlington called Professional Auto Care, or something like that, on Industrial Drive which does tinting for 189.00 +tax Lifetime Warranty

There is a sliding cover on the sun roof.

Excellent, then no need for me to tint the smoked glass in the moonroof.
15% on the rear and back passenger/driver sides, 35% on the front driver and passenger sides and 35% small strip across the front.
That should help keep the occupants conealed from view enough. ;o)

OK

I got the same on mine overkill, looks good, you might want to reconsider the roof though, it's hardly smoked at all, way too bright.
ALS-Pro, do they think you have a P5? We have less winfows on our sedans so it should cost less. I paid 200 for all my windows, the roof and a tint band on the windshield.
