View Full Version : Rally of the Tall Pines

There has been some interest about this rally.
After I handed out some cards I had in my glove box at the Vibrant event I may have stirred up some more interest.
If you like rallies, this is THE event to go watch in Canada.
Last year was the biggest spectator turnout ever, (more than 10,000 people), this year will be even bigger.
Last year they had helicopter rides!!
OK, yes, it's a bit of a trek from Toronto, but it's a lot of fun. You get to see some cool cars, you can wander around the service paddock and get close to the cars and drivers, it's a pretty open day if you don't want to follow a schedule.
Have a look at the event here, you can see the current entry list.
Rally of the Tall Pines (http://www.tallpinesrally.com)
Of particular interest are the night stages.
I will be there working (somewhere, I think stages 5&7, and somewhere at night), if someone is hardcore and wants to see a rally from the inside, PM me, I've got room in my car.
I have to be there at 6:45AM though.

I will be there on friday.
here are the directions from the web site :
From Toronto to Bancroft
Take Hwy # 401 Eastbound to Hwy # 35/115. Allow 3 – 3 ½ hours to reach Bancroft from Hwy # 35/115 and Hwy # 401 depending on the weather conditions. Follow Hwy #35/115 North from Hwy #401 towards Peterborough. Turn right onto Hwy # 7 East (towards Ottawa). Turn left onto Hwy # 134 North. Bear right onto Hwy #28 North and continue north thru Burleigh Falls, Woodview and Apsley. Follow Hwy # 28 directly into the Town of Bancroft.http://www.tallpinesrally.com/2003/images/HowToGetThere.jpg

That's a good map, although it doesn't show hwy 134 on it.
It joins hwy 7 about where the "7" is between Peterborough and Madoc.
28 is a nice drive too, you'll like it.
Just watch for cops!
I don't think any of you guys are HAM radio users, but if you are jump on the radio net to hear what is going on.
I will have my FRS too, but I'm sure it will also be used heavily for rally use throughout the day.
So bring yours to listen in on the action.

Wow,
So tired.
took.........so.......many.........pictures (hundreds, I'm not kidding).
Will post link to pictures once I've downloaded them and purged the crappy ones.
Good to see Ryan B today, and Jeremy W too.
Can I get a headcount of who was there and where you were located? I'd like to compare some stories.
Anyway, time for bed.
So........tired........

We took the picture of the rock because all the cars were hitting it and it did not sound good. First few cars exposed the rock that was at the apex of the corner. We removed the rock because we could no longer listen to the sound of the under body armour hitting it.

Here is a little movie that we shot when I took the Mazda on the Special Stage. I have winter tires on and the gravel was very slippery.

I was thinking of going to this Rally but I had now one to go with. Maybe next year. Hey Logan is there anymore Rally's this year or in the near future. Maybe we could hook up together. I have never been to a Rally race but it looks very interesting.....

This was the last one of the season, both for the ontario regionals and the nationals.
Pines is THE rally in Canada.
Next "rally" is the Ontario Winter Rally, December 6/7th I think. It's an all-night event somewhere between Peterborough and Ottawa, not a spectator event, a rally YOU can go in, in YOUR car, as long as you have snow tires and a good way of telling time in the dark.
You really should have some rally experience before getting in to this though.

i went to the rally myself with a friend from work and couple of his buddies...
we had a blast... the only thing is we showed up late...
the OPP cop at the special stage we were at looked like a white "Mr. T wannabe"... http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif we kept razzing him and he would come up and say "stay behind the yellow line, you FOO!"
anyhow my pics didnt turn out that great, I'll post some later.
Lots of subis, especially in the parking lot! http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

We should all go together next year and you will not have to stand behind yellow line.
Get a group going for next year, but not like the Subaru Club did it this year.

Next year I am going back to the same place I was at this year.
You will see why when I get my pictures posted.

I was on the stage A5, A7, A8. We got there early and went past the security to the jump that was just 800 m from the spectator area. On A7 we went another 1.8 km to the HARD LEFT NARROWS( from route instructions) This was a 90 degrees left at the end of long fast straight.
On A8 we were on the left hand corner with standing water on the apex and that is where the Golf span out.
Logan, Post the pics already!
