you should be able to adjust the shock sensor on the alarm, the rest is normal for your car, not sure if there is a fix for the clunk yet and the dimming thing I think happens to everyone.

Have the dealer plug the car into the dianostic computer a nd check the altenator . I had the same problem . It turned out that when there was a load on my alt it would put out enough voltage . They replace the alt and no more problem ,that was 70,000 Kms ago .I now have 74000Kms on my 2001 LX

Fortunately I have only noticed one of these problems, mind you I only have 450kms on my car, it was the sensitive Alarm. Yesterday a guy who parked beside me slammed his own door, and my alarm went off. It's a good thing I can see my car from my desk at work, and I could just turn it off.
As for the clunk in the rear, by reading this other thread, it sounds like they've come out with a fix: Possible Clunk Fix (http://msg.toprotege.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=14;t=7629), scroll down to the last post.
I haven't had any headlight problems..... yet! Knock on wood!

Like really? Are we talking specifically about the Mazdaspeed Protege here?
I'm on my third P5 - none of them have had problems with dimming headlights or clunking in the rear end. I even had/have aftermarket stereo equipment, alarms, and remote starters. Doesn't seem like a new car should be doing this to me.
Do you have loose spare tire tools in the hatch area, or did you disconnect the rear middle seatbelt like I did and the retractable part is hanging below the parcel shelf? Mine knocks around a bit from time to time but that's expected.
Good luck, Mark

The clunk is famous in the mazda speeds and I believe in some Mp3s as well. I have had dimming headlights since I bought the car. A lot of people have had the same problem. Maybe an upgraded set of ground wires would help.
