Hey gang, question... anyone ever tried 100W H3's in their P5 fogs?
my concerns are:
- heat
- current
I had these bulbs in some Bosch CT fogs a few years ago on a previous car and the only thing that went wrong was the 30A relay that came with the kit toasted after a while, i found a 40A and never had another problem. Will the P5 housings handle the heat and will the wiring handle the current flow? Just curious as i wanted to see what the 100W bulbs looked like on my car but wasnt expecting to leave them in long term.

Unlike the plastic headlights, the fogs have glass lenses in a metal housing. They would certainly withstand the heat better than the headlight assembly. I'd be more concerned about the current draw. If you want to be safe, loan the bulbs to Shibby - if he can't make fire with them, nobody can. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I bought some Japanese 110w bulbs on my first car (a HB Civic). Not only did it melt the wiring harness, the bulb also blew up inside the housing. That was some 8 years ago http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
If you want to run 100w bulbs, I would recommend upgrading the wiring to handle the power.

i'd advise against doing this. a few nameless members have melted the wiring sockets on their car with bulbs lower than 100W but higher than the stock of 55W. i don't care what other people say when they say stuff like: "oh... i ran them in my Honda/Nissan/Toyota and they were fine." first off, we drive MAZDA and obviously the build and quality are different. so naturally you wouldn't expect the same results. If you think you can run them, go ahead, but why risk it? a wiring harness replacement for your car will probably end up costing about the same as a set of good PIAA foglights. so do the math, be smart and don't melt anything. that's your safety tip of the day. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I f you are going to use 100 w bulbs you should put each bulb on its own 30-A relay . Also ues min 12 guage wire from the battery to the relay to the lights .
I would wire them up this way Terminal 30 to battery with a30a fuse ,terminal 87 to the lights ,terminal 85 to 12 v switched power ( turns off with key ) terminal 86 to a switch inside the car then to ground . This way you are only switching the realy on the ground side . You can put both 85's togeter and the 2 86's together . and only use one wire on each.
If this isnt explained well enought I can make up a wiring diagram for people to use

Why bother? Stock fogs are joke anyway and bulb has nothing to do with it.
55w bulb in Hella 500 put HUGE amount of light on the road-enough to light 3 lanes +10 meters of bushes on each side.
If you're so concerned with visibility, Hella 200FF should fit in stock locations and you can get full kit for $110-$120 US.

I have to disagree. I've been using Hella Optilux Xenon White 100W H3's in my fogs for about 18 months now with no problems. They made a Huge difference over the OEM bulbs combined with proper aiming. And this is from the fog capital of Canada! http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
