View Full Version : Idea for The Club!!!!
ALS-protege
September 30th, 2002, 02:11 PM
Hey Guys and gals...
I was thinking ways that we can best advertise our club and maybe make a few $$$ along the way...
This is just an idea and I would like to see if you all think it's a good one or not...
Here goes my proposal...[again, it's just an example]
Let's just say you are a customer in a Mazda dealership, your a young 1st or 2nd time buyer and are looking for something to buy besides a Honda...You browse through the showroom...You spot this mini magazine or better yet a calendar...On this calendar or Mini Mag, you see all these beautiful Mazda vehicles all done up...[Mods, decals, etc..]
You look through this, and you see that not only Honda civics can be suped up...[or something along that line]
Scenario 2:
Or your a customer sitting in the waiting room at the dealership waiting for your car to be serviced...you look on the table, and you spot one of these mini magazines or calendar...you look through it and you get some ideas on what you can do to your vehicle...
And maybe this can draw more members as well..
I know it might sound gay at first...But those Pictures in the Magazine or calendar would be pictures of the memebers rides and maybe include a Mods List/Screen Name/Real Name/and of course, have the toprotege .com site advertised as well.
We can sell or give these to our Sponsored dealerships or Performance shops...
This may cost whomever wants to get involved a few extra dollars...but just think....your ride will be advertised for the public to see....
So What ya think!?
[I think it sounds like a good idea]
And if you think it's a gay Idea...Don't be cruel...!

Worst Idea EVER. I just had to put that in.
I don't think its that bad really. Rather creative.
How about Girls of Toronto Protege???
I'd buy 10 copies just for myself.
They could be wearing bikinis, wet t-shirts, or less, and be draped all over their owns rides.

Hmmm..notice how Dave was the one saying we might be offending gay members of the club? Just an observation, no conclusions have been drawn. But ya! A Calander is a great idea. We can show the diversity of the club(we have all generations of Proteges, both sexes, many ethnicities, ages). I'm sure there are people out there, whos' job it is to do these calenders. Maybe someone should get in touch, and see what the prices may be. Like you said, maybe some sponsers could cough up the dough.

You feeling alright or something. That offspeed pitch(topic) was a lob right down the middle of the plate; in your sweet zone.
You're a slap hitter who can clear the wall even with the bad pitches. Are you afraid of a potential low laying group and what they could do? Be like Josh and get a legal disclaimer. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

To get back on topic, I actually like the idea. I know Kinko's prints calendars. All we have to provide are pictures for the months and a cover page. I think they can print these things for about $25. Not exactly cheap, but if we get another source, then maybe we can get it done for less. does anybody have contacts at Kinko's or a print shop so we can get stuff done cheaper?

a calendar would be cool, but how hard would it be to put a bunch of pictures and calendars together......anyone with word could do it right?? just have to find someone or somewhere w/ a colour printer............then it's a matter of finding someone to bind it......i know a few print shops that do calendars......i'll find out how much

If we want to do 2003 calendar, we have to act fast. We won't have the same restriction if it's more a photo collection or photo-heavy newsletter.
There is similar discussion on mazdamp3.com site. The biggest factor seems to be photography. Is there anyone here who can do a professional job for the printers?
As for pics, I like the idea of having both individual and group pics, as well as different gen's / models. It should reflect the ridership of the club. We can do this at mini-meets / Niagara cruise / bbq?
So who's going to find sponsor? I guess it won't be too hard to get some endorsement from the Mazda dealerships who are sponsoring us already?

We should have maybe 2 or 3 Pro's for each month or something along the lines...you cant choose top 12 cause then 99% of them are gonna be P5's. Im not complaining, but this is TOProtege...not TOProtege5, and there are many gens and models of Pro's out there. So maybe see who all wants their car in the calender and then divide it by 12....see the min. we need on each month and work it in that way.....its alright if one month has like 3 cars and another has 2 and so on...or we can even extend the calendar to 15 months and add any extra cars in the following year for the 3 extras. ....I dont know...blah....

I'm thinkin' a group of cars...and possibly their owners with them for each month...that way no one feels left out. Hey Hey Amy...Thanks for helping out...
Why don't I hook up with Mike [Chops] or other Westside guys sometime soon to get the layout or something and also some type of budget crap all together..
Then after, we can get the Clan leaders together so they can organize a Photo Shoot with their followers...[or whatever you want to call them]
I like the idea of possibly getting the dealerships to pitch in on the funding part....
And definetly have ALL Protege's Involved...
not too sure it would be great to have individual shots of the owners...Maybe just 1 or 2 Big Group Pic of the members that do want to participate.
Sounds like a hard to get organized..but if we put together a small group to get this rolling...We can Do It!
So How about we get some Pics going at these Mini or not so mini Meets...So whomever has a camera, be sure to bring it with you...
Ideas for Background settings would help.!
and whomever deals with the dealerships on a regular basis or who was able to get sponsorship from them, can you speak with them about the idea...
Uh! Oh!...Did I just appoint myself to doing this...
Damn!...hahaha...It's all good.

Good Idea.
I know my local deli hands out calendars to all customers so I am sure they did not cost them 25/piece.
I would gladly help align the models accross the hood.
I think it should only be P5 they are much nicer and they should all be completely stock. There is so much you can do with photography that mods will not be necessary. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
On a more serious note there is several different ways you could split the 13 layouts (months + cover)
stock vs modded
guys vs girls
regions I am sure Eastside and Westside pissing contest could be represented in a nice pictorial http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

If you guys are actually serious about doing this, try to sell advertising space on them. Use the space below where the mont and days are to different places, figure out what the total cost is, tack on some extra for the TOprotege comunity and divide the cost amongst various sponsors. They can add coupons which will be valid in the month they are featured. Lots of companies have extra $$ lying around for such things. It will a lot cheaper than them advertising by themselves elsewhere.
Try to contact companies that aresponsors or have given great servicein the past first to show appreciation for what they have done.
These calendars will not need to be sold but could be to make extra $$

Just my two cents but, you should probably only include the nicest cars from Toprotege.com. regardless of the model/Gen.
If you want to represent/promote the club well, you should include only the best we have to offer.
Not trying to knock anyones ride (LOL) (I don't think my car is even close to nice enough to display in a calendar/show) but I know that there is at least 12-15 show quality proteges' in the club. It might be a good idea to have a poll to see which cars should be in it.

I am sure the rest of the club would want "all" members who want to participate in this activity to be in the calendar....So if you don't think your car would be calendar material...that is your decision...But remember this...it's a club thing we would would love as many cars as possible...regardless if it's not Calendar material.
There is always photoshop to make the car look even better if you want.....Which by the way, I don't think we will have to use that program...All the Proteges I've seen in the club look great...
I understand that we should make this calendar stand out, by having the best "looking" cars only....
But this is promoting the club and the members...So we shouldn't turn our backs on other peoples rides...even if they do only have an air freshener.....
And it's All About the Protege's...

I think we should first see how many people would be interested in having their car in our calender...Regardless of mods, gen, or how "nice" it looks. No offense to those suggestions, but I think it should be kept fair and open to all members that are willing and able to help out!
Good idea for offering space to our dealers...this way it allows them to have more participation with us and also helps us out...win win situation!!!! http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

yeah... if you guys are planning to do this, you need to think about the costs involved first and plan out the expenses that will be incurred and details of it. photographer, time and day, location, print shop, how many to be printed, who you are going to sell it to, etc etc. also you have to think about the quality of the shots. since everybody has digital images that are probably not shot at a very high resolution, those pictures can be considered out because they aren't good enough quality to be enlarged and printed.
so plan first, then start doing this if it's feasible. cuz i'm sure the executive doesn't want a half-assed calendar repping the club.

i think that this is such a great idea....and i think that the equal appertunity for everyone to be a part of this is great...so group shots are definatly a must...and small groups are good too....but there are some cars that should be given a page themselves...that could be a vote....or we could see the best pics of a car to determine that...anyways..
i also think that a professional photographer would be great....i know that there are a lot of places in niagara that would be perfect for pictures.....all over the place..we could incorperate it into a niagara cruise...and if we do it...a pic with the CN Tower is a must....

OK first off I dont know if we really need a professional photographer - that would bring in a high cost for something that can easily be done by us...I know myself and Dave (Navy) have Pentax professional style cameras...I feel pretty good in my pictures I bring home from the car shows, the color and clarity is always good and if anyone wants to see ill bring pics to the nextmeet I come to. I know there is also on way in heck me and Dave are the only ones who enjoy photography, so someone else volunteer.
Also couldnt our photoshoot coincide (spelling) with this idea that people want to shoot a video like the Vancouver club did at their last meet. Dave suggested the parking lot across from the docks where you can see the whole city in the skyline. Ive been to that parking lot and it would be awesome to shoot at! (Also guys great place to go with the gf late one night in the week - club parks there on the wkds).

Well I could add that my dad does photography, but in his spare time and only charges the actual processing fee....also they live in the country....lots of open space too....we're all welcome to go up there...we could make a day of it...include a bbq afterwards.
Just a thought...and it's an hour away. But I could also borrow their camera so we could take pics down here.

Wow, there sure are some awesome ideas being thrown around. I definitely think a semi-arial shot of the entire group(as much of us that we can get together at one time) would be great. I also agree that it should be a calender to show just the best cars, but to just plain represent our club the best. Heck we should even have a photo of the entire group of us, WITHOUT our cars. Remember, we're all gonna want one of these calanders for ourselves, so it would be great in that sense...

I agree that we should try to include EVERYONE that WANTS to be included. None of this Top 12, or just P5s or any of that shit. Remember, what one person thinks is nice looking is not nessescarly what EVERYBODY thinks. For instance, how many P5s in the group are FAR from stock (or far from stock looking)? Sure, there might be Xennons or intakes or whatever, but, in a pic, people will see a STOCK P5 with rims. Even if its lowered it wont look lowered to anyone but us. Also, I myself prefer the JDM look whereas others prefer lots of decals and neons. Which one of us is right? Who is willing to tell someone that there car isnt good enough? There was a time where I went to school and worked part time and did the best I could, does that mean I shouldnt've been included? Let everyone who want to be a part be a part! Like, let me and Eric have a nice side by side Gen2 pic!

I agree. I can polish up my car nice, next time I go back home, and if someone can photoshop some rims for my car then I'd be in down with the G2 shot.
Someone mentioned a shot from the Niagara Cruise, If the floral clock in queenston is still covered with flowers, then that might be nice, we could make sure the clock read 4:20.
Or, if we could get down the road to the maid of the mist docks, then we could use the Falls for a back drop.
For whoever mentioned the East vs.West thing, we could have a mock up rumble on the cover between E and W.

Okay, my computer was in the shop for two days (very very bad situation and I'm very very in a bad mood about it) but I misssed the beginning of this topic, and now it's 6 pages, and I'm relaoding all my sware, and don't really have alot of time, so if I repeat others ideas or whatever.... sorry.
Anyways, the calendar thing is a cool idea. As is the having groups or whatever to not leave anyone out... generally multiple shots collaged together on one month works kinda well. you know what i mean, that way a large number of pictures can be included (some biger, some smaller whatever) but the more the merrier right... )
Also, sponsors are good to have too, like a little section on each month for a sponsor or a dealership or something... usually on the actual callendar part, not on the picture part... (like over the blank days from the month before or after... i'm sure somehone has to know what i mean)
About the pictures - doesn't anyone own a high rez digital camera?? 4-5 megapix?? I'm looking into getting one next year, but alas, i know, doesn't help right now. but a 4-5 megapix and a top resolution should bloow up pretty well to at least 11x14 (apparently a 3megapix can do 11x14 at photoquality.)
layout and stuff ins't too hard... using either quark, frontpage, or I usually just use illustrator, but whatever... there are enough grahics people in here to do stuff if you need it, especially if it is just layout and slight image editing...
but this is gettin g long winded, and I'm pretty sure you all have a handle on it all...
