Anyone have any comments on those badboys?! I saw them @ CT for $23/each and wondered how good they were. I also saw the Sylvania Cool Blue bulbs which were $23/pair.

not too sure about silverstars. However, I've used cool blues before, dont' waste your money. They're crap. I didn't notice any difference compared to the stock ones, in colour as well as light intensity.

Sylvania silverstar are alrite. The Osram silverstar (which is the European version of the Sylvania) is suppose to be better. Slightly brighter and has a wider beam pattern. I've ordered a set from www.powerblubs.com. Still waiting for them hopefully they'll arrive sometime this week.

E-Diddy - Thanks for the advice...

Firefly - Looks like $43/pair with free shipping. Any idea on duties/taxes/etc? Any idea how long shipping takes?

Don't know about the tax since I have yet to receive them. But it's actually $28UK which is $62CAD so tax would be around $10. It's suppose to take anywhere from 5-10 days to get here. They'll even throw in an extra pair or W5U blubs for free...which we can use to replace the front side markers or the front map lights.

go to First Markham Place and go to one of the auto accessories store. the guy only sells accessories, nothing else, so you'll know which one it is. get the Litech bulbs for $30. he includes a 1 year warranty on them. They're more of a really bright white than blue. looks better than stock and is a good alternative to crappy eurolite or others.

cool... but do they give 1 yr warranty? These bulbs are pretty good, i've had mine in since spring (the longest that a set of aftermarket bulbs have lasted me). what else does that store sell? i haven't been to erin mills town centre for a few years now.

yeap same 1 year warranty. I bought a pair a few months ago, they're nice but i wanted something even brighter (so gave it to my sister for her c230)...but i do hv the h3's Litechs for the fogs, and they're great so far. That store has just about all the riced up accessories u can think of. But honestly aside from bulbs, everything else doesn't look cheap IMO. They have racing seatbelt pads, shift knobs, underbody glow kit, air fresheners, cupholders, intake, etc.

I managed to find my Litech bulbs @ the CNE this summer. I think it was the guys from Car Decor b/c their bussiness card showed their location as being within Erin Mills Town Center. I paid $20 for both my H3 and H7's (taxes in). Just hold on to your receipt for warranty purposes.

MMMM...I love my PIAAs!!!
BTW, Sylvania now makes a corner bulb (eg, 1157) that looks like a bulb within a bulb. When off, the bulb looks blue (like a xenon bulb), but, when on, the inner bulb glows through an amber!
I should write to the Learning Channel and ask, 'HOW'D THEY DO THAT?"

KdawgONE, where have you seen those (1157) signal bulbs? I would really like to find them.

How do you get a wider beam pattern with just changing a bulb? That's dependent on the curvature of the relective surface in the headlight housing.

Just an fyi, I was at CT today and they had h7 silverstars there for $28 each bulb. I must tell you that the tint on them is different than all the other style bulbs. The h7's have a very light blue tint where as all the others tints were darker and had sort of a metalic coating on them. Almost a purple tint i'd say. Plus the h7's were most expensive than the others.

You're right, you can't change beam pattern. Problem is that crappy bulbs are made to loose tolerances with focal point being off-so beam pattern becomes shitty too. Changing shitty blue bulbs to high quality ones(stock Osram, Sylvania or Philips) will seem to improve "beam pattern", but actually it makes it "way it should be from the factory"

That is truth for all the DOT approved bulbs. The Osram Silverstar (don't confuse this with the Sylvania Silverstar..they're different) is an Euro spec bulb therefore they have a different filament design. I've compared the Osram Silversilver with the stock bulb and the filament "arc" has a different shape. Also the filament seems to have a higher wound count.

What you said is truth...it depends on the relective surface in the housing. But if the Euro spec bulb can throw more light on the housing you'll end up with more uniform light pattern on the road.

so it seems that you've received your bulbs finally, so was there any taxes or duties on the shipping of the bulbs on top of the $62CDN that you had already paid??

No tax at all. They're nice enough to declare it as a "gift" valued at $10...it went straight to my mail box. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif

I ordered OSRAM SilverStars and they arrived a couple days ago. They are AWESOME! The beam pattern is a bit wider and the light output is greatly improved.
Keep in mind that these bulbs aren't tinted a purply colour like the Sylvania SilverStars. They look like the OEM replacement bulb until you turn them on!
I got them from Powerbulbs.com (http://www.powerbulbs.com) with free shipping. And they come with a one year warranty http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

So the general concensus is that the Litetech bulbs seem to be the best. I've had the Eurolites and although they produce a nice colour light, and the light picks up contrast and relective material extremely well, they are in fact, not any brighter than stock bulbs. They also seem to burn out after about 8 months.

I recently switched over to NG Tec bulbs and they burned out after 2 month! http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif I still have a spare set of Eurolites and I'll use those until I get a hold of a set of Litetechs.

I am waiting for my Osram SS to come in. It's getting dark early and my vision is not good(gettin' old!http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
On Osram site lots of info about SS and other bulbs.(not North American site)
They will not last long-250-300 hours max...They WILL burn out within a year..Oh well, what can you do...

I got Sylvania Silverstar H7 for the P5 low beams after going through a blue coated and purple coated Eurolite bulbs. The blue ones produced white light, but looked like wicer bulbs, and output sucked. The purple ones had such a light coating on them, that the light colour looked stock.

The SS sold for $70 for 2 from Canadian Tire, and considering the increased light output and the clean white light, it's not a bad deal.

When I first turned themon, I was amazed how close they looked like HID.

Lumen output I can say has increased, despite the SS having a light blue coating on them. The coating on the H7 is noticably lighter than those on other bulbs, so light colour may be less white, although I haven't compared. Oh well, less coating means more light..

Osram Silverstars are better if you want more light though, over Sylvania Silverstars.

I wasn't impressed by the Sylvania Silverstars @ crappytire..

The Stock headlights on the P5 through a lot of light out already, for the approx $70 diff, not worth it.

I just put in a pair of PIAA xtreme whites. I finally adjusted the headlight height and they're really nice. I think i'm gonna tilt them a bit higher but I don't wanna be in anyone's eyes with oncoming traffic. I want to take some pics to get some feedback on the brightness.. after all I spent a good chunk of change on them.

I put the Osram SilverStars in and they are awesome. Compared to the stock bulbs. There is no colour coating on the actual bulb, so the brightness is the actual filament in the bulb, not just a coloured filter.
A definite improvement over stock! http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
