I put the KB bushing on tonite and somehow I hear a faint whistle while accelerating or cruising in gear. But it's quiet if I just give it a bit of gas to keep it going at the same speed. What did I screw up?

That's really weird. The exact same thing happened to me, but I didn't hear it until about 3 days later.

Is it a really faint..........almost rattling sound right?

I thought perhaps it was my intake, but I'm not sure.

I was trying to find out where it was coming from, but it only makes the noise when I'm driving so it's difficult to isolate.

Did you install the shifter as well?
Have you installed an intake?

Just trying to narrow it down to the cause.

No intake and no shifter. Just bushings...similar to what you described...it's like a rattle while accerlerating then turned into a whistle sound when my foot is off the gas. If I hit the clutch it'll quiet down right away. I put it in neutral, rev the engine and still no sound. So it appears to be coming from the tranny/linkage. But the shifting is smooth so it's not hitting a heat shield.

Doods thats just the sound of your gears coming thru the harder bushing along the linkage and into your cars.

Have you ever wached British touring car racing? They use straight cut gears which sound different anyways but they have no soft rubber bushings anywhere so you hear really loud wistleing.

Thats probably one of the reasons why Mazda used a soft rubber bushing instead of a nice solid feeling piece of urathane. Every little bit of machinery noise adds up. Plus their cheep. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Dont worry about it.. enjoy it! Those are the sounds of performance. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Hey Simon...Thanks for the info..

As I was reading this...I hear the exact same thing...I knew it was doing that cause of the bushings...

Want to thank whomever posted this...There was no way I could have described it myself...
