View Full Version : Old School Wheel Spacers Sought

I love my P5 very much. The styling amongst the Jap. Engineering was very much the selling point for me.

However, I have been bitten by the rice bug with a ghetto budget. So I will be known in this club for 'ghetto mods'. Over the years I have loved the look of cars with rims and tires pushed out to the max on their fenders and a wee bit beyond maybe. Maybe just flush with the protruding curvature of the wheel well, so my side paint wouldn't receive stonechips.

The functional aspect of moving the wheel out from the hub would be to increase wheel tracking for a lower roll center. It does increase handling and enhance vehicle design characteristics along with the fashion statement of a 'mean look'.

Can anyone tell me which companies make wheel spacers and adapters that are specifically for the purpose of pushing the wheel rim wider and not necessarily trying to correct bad rim choices.

I tried the H&R company which had specific makes for the Focus and most Mazda's except the Protege.
Any helpful and constructive links and ideas are welcomed. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif

Dude that's really ghetto, you should also go for chrome and gold rims with centeres that stick way out of the rim. And then get the chrome rocker panel that says "wicked" http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Try Corksport for those H&R spacers, Michael. I know they're available for the G1 & G2 Proteges...

Wont that increase torque steer like crazy? Last summer I had a set of old BMW rims on my car and they were offset so the outside edge of the tire was flush with my fender. When I accelerated out of a corner the torque steer would make me turn in on the corner even more to the point where I would have to let off to not hit the curb.

Thanks to those stupid things I got blasted at a pro shoot out slalom. Well the Z24 would have blasted me anyways but it was annoying to get blasted and not like the way my car felt at the same time. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

Yeah, I agree Simon, 'em spacers will slow you down on your slalom events. Great on a road course but not around the cones. Like I said to you the other day (tips from a pro soloer), slide the back end and you know the rest... No wonder that PT Cruiser did so well....

As for H&R spacers, the website for H&R had most mazda makes except the P5, but other Protege, Miatas up to 2001 were available.

I will try Corksport since they may be more up-to-date on the lastest models and the website for H&R may be dated somewhat.

As for extreme handling, all I want is the GHETTO THUG LOOK when I cruise in the summer.

And yes Mr. Lizard!!!
I have been eyeing those thug movies with the Chrome or Gold Deep Dish Wired Player Pimp rims too. Ohhhhhhhhhh Yeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaahhhhh.

Thanks for the imput guys.

The P5 may be similar to the 01 Protege ES Mike, but to be sure check with either Ben or Derrick at Corksport. Email them and you'll get a quick reply. I have from these guys over the years... http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Btw, the spacers should make your car streetable and handle better overall...
