View Full Version : Recall on the 99-00 protege 1.8L

September 24th, 2002, 10:43 PM
I just got the letter in the mail and thought I might post it up for anyone that didn't get one...

Ignition Coil
Recall #0702F

Mazda has determined that a defect exists on some 1999 and 2000 model year Mazda Protege vehicle produced from Dec.1, 1998 through July 31 2000.

Problem:
On some 99-00 protege vehicles equipped with the 1.8L engine, the driving performance may deteriorate, causing hesitation, rough idle, and/or Malfuction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination, due to failure of the ignition coil.

What will Mazda do:
-replace ignition coil with modified one free of charge
-takes about 30 min.

and so on and so forth..I just posted up parts of the letter

basically make and appointment with a Mazda Dealership to bring your car in if it falls in the above catagory. You don't need the letter with you.

if there's any questions it says you can call the Customer Assistance Cener at 1-800-263-4680

P.S. Which dealership should I bring my Mazda to? Or does it matter?

From where we live, you should go to Scarboro Mazda, as they are the closest sponsor who supports this club. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

But the recall, is on an AMERICAN specific item, put only on AMERICAN cars. Which means that it was probably an AMERICAN guy who designed them, then built by an AMERICAN company(most likely Ford). So as far as I'm concerned, our JAPANESE company Mazda, and its' JAPANESE engineers, where not at fault, so I don't think it would be fair to say our CANADIAN Proteges ever had a recall. And BTW, I'm not the one who coined 'beer is beer', so don't turn it around on me http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
