UNFORTUNATELY THE SHANNONVILLE EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED. ANOTHER GROUP BOOKED HALF OF THE TRACK THE DAY BEFORE I CALLED TO BOOK THE ENTIRE TRACK. THE "NELSON" TRACK IS AVAILABLE BUT THE SPEED SHOP I HAD BACKING THIS WILL NOT GO ALL THE WAY THERE TO RACE THE CRAPPY BOTTOM HALF OF THE TRACK AND NOR WILL I.
I APOLOGIZED FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE THIS HAS CAUSED ESPECIALLY TO THOSE WHO BOOKED TIME OFF OR HELPED PROMOTE THIS.
I WILL BE INQUIRING AS TOO HOW MANY PEOPLE I CAN BRING TO A LAPPING DAY IN OCTOBER WITH A GROUP THAT HAS ALREADY BOOKED THE TRACK....STAY TUNED FOR FURTHER DETAILS IN THE WEEKS TO COME.

Hmm .. Madshrap makes a good point.
What is the policy with passengers?
I am sure there are people who may enjoy some ride-alongs for a few laps even if they don't want do put their own car to the test.

I would like to come, I have a stock car though. I just want to test myself, driving skill wise, so I can improve. Basically compete against myself.
I have never been to one of these things, but meeting Tax makes me feel a bit more comfortable now to actually try it and see if I like it.
Is that cool with you folk? If so I am in, mark me down and tell me when you need the coin for it.
Mind you with vinyl 'TYPE R' seat covers, I might have the edge I need to whoop you.

*FYI: This MAY become the official September event*
Just some Q's:

-cost for watching? (as I wont be racing)
-approximate how much time? (all day? at night? etc)
Post the details and PM me aswell....

Wow,
Glad to see so much iterest! I will try to answer some questions:
-$100 per person approx (depends on # of participants.)
-Ride alongs are cool but the passenger needs a helmet
-If you are coming but not racing.........I will have to see if this becomes an "official event". If it does then I will have to talk to the officers about that.
-as for the track layout...I know them as the "Pro" and "Standard" layouts so I will have to get back to you on that
-this will probably be an early morning departure from here so that we can maximize our track time and allow for "set up" before we race. I am flirting with the idea of two pre-meets.......one for the early birds and one later on in the AM at least after rush hour. More info on this to come....
I know many people have lots more questions so I ask that you be patient as the officers make there decisions and the final details are ironed out. I will try my best to answer as many questions as possible.
Note: This is open to every club member...new or old, experienced or rookie it doesn't matter just come out and have fun and enjoy your Protege to the fullest. Don't be intimidated by the fact that more experienced drivers will be there....they know what they are doing and not only will they respect you for showing up but they will give you tons of helpful tips as well!

I'll go too! Can I bring a Talon and a Type-R?
We've kinda got a score to settle..... This would be a great opportunity.
hondakilla
August 14th, 2003, 03:49 AM
I suggest that anyone who is interested please book the time off now instead of waiting until the last minute. Anyone in the club is welcome and to get the numbers I will even suggest that friends are welcome as well!
As for what car you can run.......thats totally up to you. Although I would love to see only Proteges there I will not regulate what cars are coming. You are paying for the use of the track and its not my decision as to what you bring. My goal is and always will be to have FUN first and never sweat the small stuff.
Hell....I might even bring my Talon as well as my P5!
I will ask other boards to come ONLY if I feel the club won't be able to make a big enough showing. If this is to be an "official event" then it doesn't seem appropriate to bring in other boards to support it unless absolutely neccessary. Thanx for the idea though.....I have considered that route as well.
Keep the feedback coming!

Should it not be $100 per CAR, I don;t think people will pay a C note to just watch.
If it was per vehicle, then I believe more will attend, as they might have a friend or someone to tkae allong, who wants to come but not pay the $100.
I'm sure my wife would love to take my car for a shag, but she wouldn't pay just to come up for one spin.
Also, did you mention our time slot, all day...meaning...all day?
Also, isn't Shanonville a 1/8th mile?

Actually, I doesn't...jerk! http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
I know the postings say $100 per PERSON, but I was suggesting that it should be per CAR, as it might get more people out who want to bring someone, as I said. I also know that this is not up to us, but up to the people who run/rent the track.
Also, nothing is said about time. I know early AM is usually too early for me, but I was wondering when do we have to give up the track. I've been to a few bike events there, and they ended somewhat early.

I believe Scot means is that it's $100 per RACER. He hasn't put up a price (if there is one) for spectators. If you're bringing one car and two drivers, then thats pritty ghetto...bring two cars or wait until more info is given out.

I wasn't trying to pull a scam, what I means was that my wife would come out to watch for the most part, and I'm sure she would like to go out for a try, but not expect to pay $100.
When it said $100 per person, I thought it meant, per person, not per racer.
All I know is, they need to build a Tim's closer to the track for those early races.....

Quick Question how does insurance companies look upon track racing? Is an accident on the track covered? Or does the track offer coverage?
Also does anyone have or know if I can borrow a helmet or rent a helmet for the day (promise not to wear hair products http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif )?

well, track is very safe. i never saw car rollover. but saw accident..
rowan
August 26th, 2003, 07:40 PM
You're basically on your own for insurance .. I would not think the chances of them covering an on-track incident is likely although it has been done before. But it's easy enough to stay out of trouble. Drive within your limits and don't try to show off.
Logan
August 26th, 2003, 07:51 PM
What Rowan said.
If you screw up, be prepared to pay, or not drive until you can save up enough to fix/buy new car.
It's this information that usually keeps people within their limits.
There is track insurance, but it is liability insurance, it does not cover damage to your personal property.

The Pro track is regarded as the go kart track.
Either way, I think it will be fun...and the top speeds tend to be lower on this.
I've been a member here for a while but haven't been to any of the meets or haven't paid any membership fees.
Can I still bring out my P5 for this event?

I've never been to shannonville.
Has anyone actually seen the pro track before?
What kind of speeds are we talking about? What kind of lap times?
Edit:
Have a look here (http://www.shannonville.com/maps.htm) for the course maps etc. You will note that the Pro Track also uses the drag strip, so we wont be able to run drags and lapping at the same time. Pro is 2.4something km in length, looks like lots of fun! Also there is plenty of runoff room at the end of the long straight if you miss your braking point. Too bad this map doesn't show elevation.

at the end of the back straight, u'r looking at about 130-140 km/h on street tires before making that 3rd gear turn.
might be faster if you're running R compounds cuz you can exit that hairpin a wee bit faster.
i'm just guessing here for your car but that's what i usually see out of all hte times i've been there.

I was there on monday for the pay/lap and they use the "long" track. it uses the drag strip too, loads of fun. Ya I hit about 160 on the straight before the corner.. i worked my way up from 80km/h into the turn and by the 5th lap i tried it at 140 lost the back end "oversteer" and put it into the grass. No harm done, its a great track to learn your limits on as long as you watch the people around you.
I'll be there all day friday for sure.

Too bad this map doesn't show elevation.<span id='postcolor'>
at the end of the back straight, u'r looking at about 130-140 km/h on street tires before making that 3rd gear turn.
might be faster if you're running R compounds cuz you can exit that hairpin a wee bit faster.
i'm just guessing here for your car but that's what i usually see out of all hte times i've been there.[/quote]
I was hitting 140km/h at the end of the Fabi straight (braking just past the 100m marker) in the pouring rain. should get a bit more speed in the dry. Good lap time in the dry, around a 1:25:00, my car got a 1:35:00 in the rain.
I'll be on it again for the final Solo I event at the end of Sept. Hopefully it will be dry!
Oh and don't worry about the map not showing elevation...there isn't any, the track is pretty much flat.
You can find some lap times here:
http://www.wiredmotorsports.com/soloont....13and14 (http://www.wiredmotorsports.com/soloontario/so-results.asp?type=o&year=2002&event=s13and14)
they are from an event last year (solo I) in the dry...these are mostly street cars...time is in minutes...eg 75:00:00 means 1 minute 15 seconds
