View Full Version : Tuning needed!

Anyone know of any place where I can get my MSP tuned? My car is running super rich and has never been tuned. She runs good, but at full throttle she kinda hesitates and boggles.. Reputable garages only and relatively good prices.

Will a Split Second AFC help? Kinda wanted to purchase one, but if tuning is better than I'll get her tuned.

My current mods:

1. Injen cold air intake
2. Vibrant Performance Turboback exhaust
3. Upgraded side mount intercooler with hardpipes
4. Greddy BOV

Thanks
Mike

Ummm, You can't just tune a Stock ECU...

You need some form of Fuel/Ignition control.

Wow. All those mods and no tuning solution.

I'm surprised you haven't popped your motor yet.

would a Split Second AFC v2 or FTC be good enough? Heard these things work wonders...

Ftc can retard timing, good if you're really pushing boost levels.

Afc v2 can add or pull fuel. And they work quite well if setup right

So any other suggestions? Pls!

My Question is what is your goal...

What do you (Realistically) expect the car to do.

Well I'm done with the modding for now.... I want to keep her as she is... But she doesn't run nearly as good as she use to before... The "fun" in driving has turned into more of a "concerned, worry" driving... With the mods I have what would be sufficient enough to get her running well?

With the info you've provided your question was already answered...

Brian asked what do you plan to accomplish with your car and you didn't really answer. If you have no goals for anything with your car, why did you mod it? Put it back to stock and problems solved.

I have reach my goals.... She just doesn't run smooth and loss of power... I would like a solution to get her running well with the mods she currently has... Why would I want to strip her.. I like the mods I have and want to know what solution is best to get her to run less rich and boggy on full throttle...

This was your goal? Congrats.

Re-read what midnitehour wrote and research it more. He already answered your question. Unichip is another tuneable option.

My question is with the mods that I have, what you be sufficient enough to support my current mods... No suggestions were made.... Only what the FTC and afc does... Nothing stated that it would be good for my setup...

They all do different things, and all will be good enough for your current setup.

Hence why Brian asked, what your goals are.. figure out what your goal is and then choose one.

I'd also suggest checking your spark plugs and O2 sensor, because if you're running rich you probably have a carbon buildup also contributing to it running like shit.

If your car is running rough and you only have the basic mods you listed then you are probably better off getting or doing a good tune up.

1) clean and check your MAF
2) check your primary O2 sensor
3) check and adjust your throttle position sensor
4) clean and check your throttle body (butteryfly, leaks etc)
5) check your iac
5) replace your egr
6) pressure test for vac leaks
7) check all solenoids on vac system
8) check fuel pressure
9) change spark plugs
10) check coilpacks and wires
11) check cam position sensor
12) check crank position sensor
13) seafoam your engine
14) clean or replace your filter

Where is your MAF in this set up. If it is before the BOV on the unpressurized side of your air intake path, then you will always have a problem with metered air and hesitation when you let your foot off the gas. If it is after, then it will eventually get dirty from oil that gets sucked into your engine from the compressor side of your turbo.

OMG!! LoL that's a serious list

I agree that all of those could result in your problem.

My MAF sensor is on my CAI And my BOV is on the cold pipe spliced into my breakbooster line... Should I purchase a vac block or delete my BOV setup? Im due for emissions on the 17th of his month and very worried that I won't pass...

get rid of your BOV and put back in the stock BPV. or recirculate your BOV back into the intake.

The thing is I'm running a dual setup bov and bpv... I think I may just cut the bov off the cold pipe and put a delete in place... Will that work? Cus I'm sure we can't run a bov VGA right?

seafoam smoke show to help with the carbon build up. make sure you do it properly and not just half assed.
I'm pretty sure if you search unichip theres a site out there that has the unichip tuner with pre-set maps for the msp with certain mods and i'm pretty sure yours falls into one of those tunes. I picked one up with a safety tune as theres a shop in burlington thats an authorized unichip tuner so i'm doin custom tune.I wouldnt push the boost too much, instead focus on smoothing out the power band and keep it reliable. ZOOM ZOOM BOOM isnt exactly a bank account friendly term. I'd know. Now that i'm built i'm feeling like pushing it a bit.

This is a good place to start as tuning an engine in need of a tune up is pretty much useless.

In regards to the oil getting sucked into compressor side of the turbo, isn't there a way to prevent that from happening? I thought i heard someone mention an inline filter that would catch the oil...i could be tripping. Oh wait my LSD broke a few years ago never mind.(bad joke i know)
