Question about offset.

As a general rule.. if your stock rim is 7.5" and 35mm.. what is the range you should stick with if you get a 7.5" rim?

According to this calculator:

http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp

If I go with a 45mm offset.. then it moves 10mm toward the strut.. and if I go 40mm its only 5mm towards the strut. So assuming I have 15mm of space I can go with anything between 35-50mm offset? If I go with 30 and below I need to ensure I have the opposite amount of space between the tire and the fender.. correct?

If you go with a wider rim, and you keep the same offset, then the extra width will be added on both sides of the rim. (ie. if you go 12.5mm or 1/2" wider, then you will be 6.25mm closer to the strut and to the fender).

How close is too close to the strut.. my winter package has less than a finger's worth of space in the rear between the strut and the the tire side wall (lots of room from the rim.. but the tire is wide).. I guess the clearance is different in the back vs the front of the car.

I checked the tire and there is no contact while driving.. tire doesn't heat up or anything like that.. but there is a strange resonance sound coming from the back.

Sound is probably from the winter tire itself, a finger's space is ample.
Tighter the better.

if you don't see rubber on the strut then all is well.
