I just bought a 03 Protege5 the other day knowing it had this problem, i was wondering how much it would cost to fix this, or what i could do myself. This is my first car, so i dont know too much yet.

The lock on the driver door can only be unlocked/locked manually, with the key or by pushing the button. When you press the automatic lock on the key or from inside the car, you can hear the lock trying to catch, kinda like something is spinning under the lock, trying to catch it and bring it down... but it never does.

Depending where you are, there are a few solid guys here who can do it for you while you watch and learn.

This could easily be done as a parking lot install at a meet if you want to set it up.
