View Full Version : Wheels Direct Packages

Here is what Wheels Direct is offering.
PLEASE DO NOT GO AND SHARE THESE PRICES WITH THEIR COMPETITION. YOU EITHER LIKE THESE PRICES and BUY THEM, or you do your own investigating and purchase them elsewhere.
All these prices INCLUDE TAX AND INSTALLATION!
1) 195/55/15 HANKOOK ZOVAC W400, Directional Tread, T Rated, with 15" Steelies. $590 (Really Good Deal)
2) 195/55/15 HAKKA1, T Rated, one of the more aggressive winter tires in the market, developed in Finland, with 15" Steelies . $730
3) 195/50/16 Perrelli 210 Snowsports H rated! - BWM approved, using STOCK RIMS. $715
These prices may change.....if they do, it'll probably move to the cheaper side of things. Again it is tough to price things now because it is relatively early.
Two things to remember:
1) These guys need to make a living too.
2) Cheapest is not always the Cheapest, understand what you are getting.
I will set up a poll that will give us an indication of how many the club may be purchasing. This way they can allocate stock for our club.
Again this is just preliminary...I think it’s a bit early.

The Pirellis are $155 a tire..... that is kinda on the expensive side of things for winter rubber.... I don't wanna get 15'' steel rims cause they will eventually F-up a future big brake install so I'd rather keep my 16'' stock rims.... I'm gonna have to do some thinking. Are you sure there is nothing cheaper that will fit? $155 is more than what most of our clubmates have spent on their summer tires! I guess divided between 4 years (I'll use winter tires for 4 years before they wear down)of use it isn't THAT much more money but I'd rather be buying $80 tires - not double that. Do we really have that few options if we want to stick with our stock rims Jason?

argggg...... I will inquire on the cheapest Rubber available for our stock 16" rims.
I will get back to you shortly.

Switching tires on and off rims is very bad for the tires. It ruins the sealing bead on the tire It is much better for the tires to get steelies.

Jason in case you missed my post in the other thread can you find out the price for 15" steelies alone? Thanks.

September 23rd, 2002, 03:34 PM
I think most of the people that are interested in the 16" package have summer rims and tires. But good point.

September 23rd, 2002, 04:38 PM
your Stock 16 inch rims will not work with the big brake kits
that are now out (stop tec) The caliper clearance is the big
problem. You may be able to use spacers to move the rim outward, but if the car is droped wheel rub will be a big problem.
Just ask the guy from world of wheels..
Also ask if the steels are a perfect fit. The center hub area may not be.

Someone posted earlier that Burlington Mazda was offering a package for 640.00 plus tax. I called them yesterday and he said that those were the tires with 15 steelies from Mazda.
But 590.00 sounds really good, I am in for that. Jason, does that price include taxes and hardware and installation?
If it does, I am in, take my order right now.
Thanks for your effort Dude

there's such a huge price difference between the first and the second one. looking at price alone: are the hakka tires that good? are they better than the Perrelli snowsports? the hakka are 15" too and they are still more expensive than the 16" perrellis! but since i'm not going to be using my stock rims, it's either option 1 or 2. jason, when is the last day you need to know our decisions by? 100% i'm getting an option, just dunno which one yet. either option 1 or 2. i just have to decide first.
YP5 Toronto
September 24th, 2002, 11:07 AM
Option number 1 works out to be $89 , number 2 is $118, and 3 is about $155 for each piece of rubber. Remember each 15" steelie costs $40.

YP5 Toronto
September 24th, 2002, 08:58 PM
i believe....metal studs are illegal. From the link you posted they seem like great tires. The owner of wheels actually recommended them. They sold quite a few of them last season...I will call them and ask.
thanks for the link Chopstick.

They are studdable.....meaning you can put in studs, but the package we are obviously buying does NOT have studs.

I just gave Joey at Wheels Direct a call. The 15" steelies are about $35 each. However that's last year's price and he'll have some coming in in a couple weeks.

Hey Jason, I have been looking around and I asked Steve at Scarboro Mazda Parts, he gave me a few quotes too pricey but he priced 15" steelies from Mazda, made for places where Pros come with just steelies with the Hakka tires for 649 + tax. He said that these tires are studdless, there are little holes for the studs but here they without them. they look like a great tire.
YP5 Toronto
September 25th, 2002, 03:18 PM
okay....so prove positive that Wheels Direct is providing our Club with great "upfront" prices. Compared to Scarboro Mazda at $649 + Tax ($746.35 --for the westsiders i did the math), Wheels is offering it to us for $590 TAXES INCLUDED.
I have invited Wheels Direct to join them message board and anwser any other questions you may have.

September 26th, 2002, 07:30 AM
This is just comparing package 2 from Wheels Direct 730 compare to Scarboro Mazda special Toprotege Club price or 649.00+tax which 746.35. It's still cheaper to get them from Wheels Direct.
Jason just make sure that they provide us with customer service, I had bad experience with them when I was looking for my summer rims and tires

so obviously the tires are better WITH the studs. so the question is: how do these tires compare when they are WITHOUT studs?
YP5 Toronto
September 26th, 2002, 08:23 AM
from the literature that I picked up from Wheels, the desgin is in the tire compound and in the tread design. The studable thread is more of a bonus and not the main focus of design.

Did some more on-line research and reading and I read up on the Hankook Zova 400's Directionals.
They have one hell of an aggressive design and compound make-up for what that tires is worth. Seems as if it is up there with one of my ghetto deals. My eyebrows are raised very high. :|

I think Alan (mazdaspeed) is also working on a deal that would include winter tires and steelies specifically made for the P5/ES/MP3. So there should be no fitment problems. He is talking to his parts dealer and I will tell him to post as soon as he can get prices.

better price.....LOL....you guys are killing me. I put up these prices to see if we could gather a number of people to try and get lower prices. Instead, everyone goes out and TRIES to find lower prices. The stuff that I have researched and posted are great prices!!!!! May not be the best price (give or take $10-$100) but is by far the best technology for the $$$.
So......yes I can get better pricing, but I need more participation.

okay....here is the dealio......
Because these prices are exclusive to CLUB MEMBERS only (wait its free to join this club....for now), you will simply need to download an online coupon that you will bring into wheels direct. The only thing you need from me or this club is to simply download, print and then fill out this online form. I am busy today, but I will be creating this form for you all to use.
1) Notify me that you are going to go and purchase one of the packages. I send the information to them so that they can verify you membership to this club.
2) download the form, print and fill out.
3) You simply walk into Wheels Direct, show them the coupon, get them installed and pay them. DONE
I would recommend calling ahead to see if they have stock available and if they have any bay time open.
I will create a new post with revised instructions when the online form is complete.

I got my package, it's package 1, 15" steelies and 195/55/15 Hankook Zovac w400, they charged me 630 all inclusive. Still was a great deal.
Just for your info, the 590.00 price comes with the Khumo's KW11, which is T rated tires. The Zovac w400 is probably a better handling and cornering tire since the thread is directional and also they are H rated tires.
They don't have the Zovac W400 in stock, so before you go, have them order it for you. I got them to order it without leaving a deposit. But they have the Khumos in stock.

hey guys, joey here...
actually the prices i quoted jay were approximations based on last years pricing. He wanted to post something as early as possible and i told him i couldn't because i didn't have everything in stock yet. The $590 package came with "take offs", these are less expensive oem rims removed at the dealership. These are not available this season so only aftermarket steels will be used in the packages. This is approximately $50 more. This makes the package $640. Sorry for the confusion.
