Well as many of you know I had one loud ass hill climbing Protege 5.
I sadly sold her last year mainly bc of the rust issues. There was serious bubbling comming up around the windshield on the a-pillar which I knew was alot more than I wanted to chew. Mechanically that was great sold w/a forged motor to a close friend who still has her. However the rust has gotten much worse.
Well a couple days ago Vicious1 msged me with his car being for sale. I thought about it and jumped at the opportunity. The car came with a couple "scooter touches" haha. BC2 side skirts and ebruni wing. Over the next little while I am going to be giving her the iJay touch. This thread is to keep track of all the things I have done to her and to possibly help those who maybe wanting to mod thier cars.
Other than a deck and some painted panels the car's interior came stock. I have plans of making this into an audio show piece. I have already put a 12w7 into it. I ordered 4 8" mid bass speakers which will be fitted into the privacy deck in the hatch. I am currently looking for door speakers. This weekend I will be installing 8 1" dome tweeters.
The car could use some body work, rust on the rear 1/4s but that will come next year. My plans for the exterior are simple AutoExe lip which is being picked up tonite (Thanks P5 Rally) the side skirts are going to be repaired and painted. The theme I am really liking is the midnite blue and satin black for the roof and accented on the hood.
So far I have insulated the hatch and all 4 doors, all wiring has been ran for the audio (4 way splitter). As of last nite I took the headlights out and took em apart I will be painting the housing black over the weekend.
Fortunatly for me Vic left me hids in both the headlights and fog lights. which will be staying with the car.
My plans for this year are basic body work and AUDIO. My goal is to be in the 150+ db range, not everyones cup of tea but something I enjoy. Next year I plan on the body work and if all goes well forge maybe turbo the engine.
I own 2 luxury cars (caddi and a Benz) with a Nissan Versa for my fiance and a boat, but I have to say the P5 found a special place in my heart thus the purchase. Right from the ease of maintance to as easy as it is to drop the bumper the only thing I can grip about is the rust issues with the car but meh. By the time I am done the car will be rust proofed from bottom up.
Stay tuned for pictures and progress reports.

So I am in the middle of refinishing my headlight lenses and I am stuck I used 1500 and 2000 water sandppaper its still foggy as hell how hi do I have to go to bring this back to clear?
In other news the housing surrounds are sick in flat black!

looking forward to your build!
if you use sandpaper to refinish your lights, you will need to polish them to clear them up, otherwise they will remain foggy. 2000 grit is good, but if you finish with 3000 the scratches will be easier to remove

^ what he said, just use a polishing compound like Mother's or something after sanding and that should bring the clear right back and looks great.

This weekend proved to be productive.
It started with completing my light project, painted, put together and then polished, they look great. I was able to have the car lowered (f*kin end links) Sunday I started with washing and clay barring it. Damn the paint really shines. I have also been going thru the car piece by piece with rust proofing. More or less to slow the exsisting rust.
As of last nite I took the side skirts off for repairs n fresh paint, also the front lip is going in for paint as well. I added 6x3" tweeters, decided I didnt wanna but up the interior for this so I made a box that is sitting on the rear privacy cover. I didnt however get as far as the 6 1/2" s as yet. But the car is definatly loud and clean!
My next steps will be cleaning the interior to return it to a showroom finish.
I will have to get pics up, I thought I would have been able to uplaod em but they blocked usb devices @ work.

Oh yea, forgot to mention. I fully insulated the hatch and the rear doors. The front doors seem to have too much mechanisim in it to insulate properly. But damn you should hear the sound! Come out thursday to witness this!

Caddi is there. But with gas prices as high as they are a v8 w/premium only tends to burn thru ur walet pretty quick. We've resolved to keep it but just to pull my boat. The benz is and always was the weekend car.

I know what you mean man. My 599gtb is for track days only. The gas prices are preventing me from enjoying it too. And the helicopter is reserved for random trips to my estate in miami. BTW LeBron is staying there right now to get his mind off the finals. He's probably chillin in my salt water pool right at this second. But yeah, ce la vie.
Glad to hear the pro's on the road.

So last nite, I picked up my new grill. Today I will be picking up all my painted and repaired goodies from the paint shop. Last nite I swapped out the little floating fuse for the audio to a 150a ANL fuse and holder.
Wired up some alarm sirens as an aux horn. Should be putting my double din in the car soon as well.
Installed a cold air intake in it on Tuesday night as well!

Well last nite was productive, I added some brake fuild shifting has got a bit easier. now there is a small grind going into 3rd. but meh once it can last till next spring I ll be just fine.
Got painted goodies back and installed looks amazing! The grill was a real turning point for me. Im confident now with a lip this car will be hawt. I am debating on the color of rims and have been for some time. I want gold but as I said @ the westside meet last nite I dont wanna have that "subaru" look. Open to suggestions/pics.

Picked up Sled's p5 last nite. The P5 will be almost rust free after this evening, swapping all the doors and hatch!
Considering taking the extra set of headlights out and dong a projector Retrofit.
Stock sides going back on, with a stock rear wing.
Swapping the transmissions + Clutch and Stock shifter in hopefully by Fridayish
All the brakes are getting swapped.

Fun isnt the word.
I honestly don't think I would have bought this P5 as my DD if I knew there were so many issues to be looked after.
Since I last updated this thread I have done a ton of work, however still moving along slower than anticipated.
Last nite I swapped the leaking/faulty caliper (by myself)
I changed the glove box, I swear I'm cursed when it comes to them, both had the same issue the latch to open it snapped off under light pressure.
Removed the old HVAC controls to find a huge WTF?!!? Why would you take ur trim panel out to be painted but not re install ish correctly? The cables were connected however they werent clipped in properly
Installed a Double din, I have a couple more tweeters and my speaker for under the hood to be hooked up.
All doors and hatch have since been swapped they just need to be clay barred and waxed in relativly good conditions, just a couple dents and 90% rust free.
The next couple of days should prove to be productive in getting this car parted and scrapped.

LOL! Well my blackberry was run over I am awaiting a new one which is apprarently on its way in now.
Oh and I was considering not saying this but meh.
If you are going to be ***king with the seats in your car, home remedies and people's safety arent something you should compromise.
So while I was cleaning the filth in this car I noticed the seat belt knuckle had alot more play than I recalled, as I look down there is some loose nut and bolt in the place of the OEM stuff. Im like WTF? I was trying to recall if there were racing seats installed in this car or not, So I resolved to not taken passengers with at least in the front seat till I can have this properly fixed, laast thing I want is someone flying into the windshield bc of someone elses negligence.
So as I am shampooing the drivers side footwell the little plastic thing that covers the seat mounting bracket comes loose. under there guess what, someone has taken the OEM bolt and replaced it with some smaller, rusted out bolt. For reference sake I check the passenger side, both bolts are the same size. So I know this has been tampered with.
To further check it, I referenced my old car and my parts car. Seriously some things just shouldn't be played with. Or at very least brought to someones attention.
Needless to say I have swapped that bolt on the seat bracket, I should be doing the passenger side seat belt tonite.

Leaps and Bounds!
Last nite I swapped the non working HVAC control for working ones, I was tryna get the AC compressor to come one, it wouldnt for some reason. I red 991.8l's write up on the fan resistor pulled it from the parts car and swapped it in. Bam! Compressor came on, got the system all gassed up.
Bye Bye Gas mileage enter nice cold air!
Checked the oil level, found there was NO oil on the dip stick. I changed the oil 1500km ago Im like WTF I was told it burns 1qt between oil changes. Whatever Ima just swap the engine and done.
The rear sway bar, Trans and Engine are the last things left to do! I am hoping these rotors and pads hold off untill September ish to free up some cash for drilled rotors!
Oh yea I got a Carbon Fiber RC HOODDDDDD!!!!!!!

I am going to swap the motors in the 2 cars trans, water pump and timing belts will be new ones.
The new motor will come with a fresh tune up. This car sits @ 230k the parts car sits @ 190 but burns no oil.

Zoom Zoom, Blaaadow!
So over the past couple of days I stopeed using the cluth in hopes of blowing this shit up. Well the tranny is super ***ked now! Which pushes me into fixing this car now.
So today I ordered a water pump, timing belt fron main seal, cam seal and rear main seal. As well I am going to be looking for some forged parts, maybe a turbo!!!!!

I've finally realized the P5 is not made for audio. Ive gone thru 2 alternators in just this car alone!
So last nite I yanked most of my audio equipment out of the car and re-installed it in my Caddi.
From the bass cutting to amps turning on and off my audio was plauged with issues that simply boil down to needing a bigger battery and re qound alternator. Ive given up on the monster audio in this car. I will be putting something a little more conservative in it eventually for now it will jsut be a DD as the truck will be taken on the audio build!

If I decide to keep my MSP for a fun second car I'll be wanting to rebuild the engine sooner or later.

I 2nd that, details on the motor build. What parts, any top end work or just the rotating assembly? Ready for boost? What compression? Specs? Be sure to break the engine in properly and not just a long highway drive, please.
Did you throw a beafier clutch in?

August 11th, 2011, 09:00 AM
Just rotating assembly I can find out more information, about the specs on it as I get it back. It is ready for boost but wont be bossted n etime soon. 2013 if n e thing at all.
exedy clutch in there dont really want a stiff pedal as this is a DD.

The car was just completed, I havent even sat in her or driving her. After getting the motor and trans built and put in, I find out there are tons of little parts that need attention or replacing.
tons of fittings and hoses were falling apart, Master cylinder leaking costed me alot more $ in the end that I didnt want to have to spend. After everything is dun the mechanic calls me and says "Jay we have another issue"
Im like WTF?
He said the shifter linkage is all bent and shit. So to source all these parts and ish.
I went and saw the car and I felt to just kick it. Also I am getting a great offer of a deal on another Protege 5.
