Ok. I dont know the forum for it and what not but maybe someone here can help me.

My friend has a 2007 Mazda 3 with a spun rod bearing. So he think, so it sounds like.

If it is a spun rod bearing, is it cheaper to take apart and replace or is the engine shot?

If so how much does a rebuilt or used Mazda 3 engine go for?

He also mentioned that he recently got his oil change at Jiffy Lube. Has the reciept, could this be the cause?

Lets also keep in mind Im not that bright so lets stay away from terminolgy and big words I wont understand.

when the engine let go, was there oil in the engine?

with the 2.3L engine, the oil cartridge is plastic. so if they (jiffy lube) were careless and put it on too tight, it may crack and spring a leak.

I also remember the older 3's, the AC compressor clutch would sieze up. maybe that could be making noise. the AC compressor is located at the bottom of the engine.

if it is a spun bearing, then you might as well just replace the engine.

If it's a rod bearing, just grab a used motor. I'd say a lack of oil is the culprit and willing to bet it's related to the recent oil change but very hard to prove.

So is it worth it to bring to dealership to find out what is wrong with it exactly? then bring it to another shop to do the re and re?

Take it to Jimmy at Street Performance in Markham, he's really popular with the Mazda 3 guys over on TM3 and seems to really know his stuff.

Skip the dealer. You're just going to toss a bill or two out the window. Take it to where you want the work done, get a line on a motor before you hit the shop to minimize downtime. If it's a re&re they can get the motor out while you go grab the new to you one and they'll be ready for it when you drop it off. Pop it in and that way it's in and out of the shop in 48hrs.

There's a bunch of different types. I don't know enough about 3s to know which motor you need

Take it back to Jiffy Lube, they say they are warranty approve oil change but they can't warranty there F$%^ up, they call the dealer to try to warranty there mistakes. But you should really take the car to someone that knows Mazda's... You'll have less hasel in the long run...
