i have a standard keyless entry on my 02 protege with lock.unlock.panic button, but no trunk release. does anyone know of a way to add this mechanism to the car? and im assuming i could get a new keyless remote from the dealer/somewhere that would have the added button? im also looking to maybe add some LED light strips to the car, hopefully a red/orange type deal that looks similar to the dashboard/console orange lights. i havent done too much digging i figured this is the best resource i have...anyone know where i could get a colour that would match up to this? and how do i hook it up exactly?

You would have to to a little rewire to get it to work.

1. install a trunk popper motor in the trunk to pop it open. then run the trigger wire to the factory keyless entry module (I think it's under the dash left of the steering column).

2. rewire the first unlock press to unlock all of the doors.

3. Take the second push unlock from the remote and use it to trigger a relay to power the trunk release motor.

then you would have lock, first press unlock, and double press trunk release.

:D

or you can just pick up a cheap keyless entry system from princess auto that has a remote with the three buttons already on it. Then just install that.

Good luck

I'd grab a starter or alarm starter combo that would already have the feature built in and then just throw a popper in there and a merc switch to a light if there isn't a light in the trunk already.

sounds straightforward, thanks guys. how easy (or hard) would it be to install the popper? and whats the cost?

I'm interested in doing this. I already have an aftermarket alarm installed with a button for trunk release. Where/how would I route the wiring from the trunk area to under the steering column area?

Couldn't you just route the wiring under the door sills? I've hidden all kinds of things going from trunk even to engine bay. Just go under the seat, then under the edge of the carpet to the door sills and then the b pillar plastic and again door sill and then carpet. Takes longer to type then to actually run the wires
