hey hondakilla, not sure if you'll remember, but I was at shoeless joe's the other night (me being a rookie and all), short philippino dude with the stock lazer blue mp5 http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/baaa.gif yep that's me... I wouldn't mind taking my car to the track to see what I could run now compared to what I will be able to run in the future...

Im bringing a tiny set of 13s with low profile slicks to run on so it should be fun.
Is this a test and tune night? And is the raod course going to be open for lapping?
hondakilla
August 4th, 2003, 08:50 PM
No extra safety equipment required.
Mp5lb- I do remember you from the meet and am glad you are coming out.....I hope more noobies follow your lead.
7plymaple-glad to see you coming out for a 1/4 mile event. I don't think that the other track is open at night. It is a test and tune night so there is no competition, dial ins, etc. to worry about.
Johnny5- Although I wish you would wear a helmet 24/7 to cover up that mug of yours it is not required at Cayuga. If you can't make it thats cool I will just take your g/f instead.....She would rather be in the faster Pro5 anyways!!! LOL

Hopefully there will be more at this. Everyones always talking about take it to the track, lets see some people actually do it. Its basically heads up, so you do run against another car, no dial ins or anything you actually are only running against the clock though.

August 7th, 2003, 01:47 AM
I hope so to Mark. I would hope that our club is interested in more than "beer and strippers" (not that there is anything wrong with those two) I just hope that our fellow club mates recognize that this meet is about fun and racing the clock but most importantly principle. "Take it to the track" is fine to say...but unless you actually do it you will never understand the difference. "Fast" is a relative term...for me the track is all about how fast my "Protege" is and not about how fast my protege is compared to every other car on the road!
7plymaple-I wouldn't trust your tools, wheels, etc unattended at Cayuga. I would love to see someone from the club who doesn't want to race to come up anyways so we could keep our stuff in their car....we'll see.
Pro2nr-glad you can come. Check the board Sunday night for Pre-meet instructions and directions.
Mp5rYda-hope you can make it man...and you will be lined up against whoever happens to waved up beside you from the lanes. (doesn't always work out the way you want it but its fun none the less)
Rowan-1/4 mile vs. rain doesn't work out so well. Keep an eye out for a BIG event in september that you may be a little more interested in.........(details soon)

Scot its nice to see that it seems you have taken up the torch and are leading Protege drivers who like to drag race in a positive direction. So true about the saying Take it to the track. Although the only people who ever said that arround here actually did. But more people should. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif

okay i am jsut really curious here, why isn't there more people going to this meet!? if its because of other plans i can understand but anything else i really dont understand at all, other then maybe your car is fucked up somehow.
we all have relatively brand new cars, are people afraid of breaking something?! i doubt anyone will anyways. i just find it funny that we can get soooo many people out to retaurants and what not, but only a few who will actually "take it to the track" are people afraid of being slow because we know most of us are in fact slow, but really, who cares, just going to have fun like we do at other social events we have, race against the clock, and even if you are stock or almost stock wouldn't you like to try and beat what magazines say your car does in the 1/4 mile?
we have a good group of people in this club and i know a handful of you, so come on why arn't you going, as for me i am still trying to get someone to take my shift at work, i already know i will be slow as ass with an auto P5, but i'd just like to try something like this, same goes with auto-x which i have been a passenger in a few times, tons of fun!! but with a stupid auto that wont work out to well
anyways thats my rant, just really curious why there isn't a bigger showing to an event like this that we all should be going to, let me know ... because really i dont think there is ANYTHING to lose

I agree, what happened to all the peoples that bitch and whine about getting pulled over for racing every week up in Woodbridge/Markham...why don't you guys come out?
It will be fun and you're sure not to get busted for racing, improper intake, loud exhaust, drinking timmies coffee, etc.

Well I just got back from the track and it was pretty fun. How could it not be when your cruisin with Mike Moss?
Anyways I got my personal best time of 17.4 with the little 13" slicks. The gearing of the smaller diameter tires really helped because last year I got a 17.6 on a cooler night with an intake on. Now I have my stock intake back in and I had more weight in the car. But still got a couple tenths faster. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif
I only tried doing a burnout on the last run but I should have been doing that all night. Those tires got way stickier with the heat in them. And they spun nice and smoothly during the burnout giving me no wheel hop.

August 14th, 2003, 03:41 AM
Well done guys,
As dissippointed as I am about the actual turnout I couldn't have been happier with the guys that actually came out! Everyone had a blast and everyone came with the right attitude......have fun and see what you can run! I am glad everyone had fun and did well.
Notes:
Props go out to my AutoX boys Simon and Mike for showing that they could throw down on the 1/4 mile as well.
Cruisin-as always a model of consistency.....couldn't have anything to do with that auto could it?
Ryan-You were hesistant for a few days there but came through and ran 7 times......I will leave it at that bro....
Alex-nice runs......I am glad you proved me right and ran 17's.....you are good people
Eddie-You are one of the highlights....running for your first time in a bone stock P5 with even the spare still in and you still ran a 17 flat.....I think I enjoyed our 4 races the most......good driving and get some mods because you definately have skillz
Myself-I enjoyed watching the "track" newbies more then anything....the excitement, nervousnes and then the thrill of accomplishment.....my best memory of tonight!
Attention TPC members who didn't come:
Just for the record no-one broke anything, everyone had fun, and I didn't once hear anyone complain about being beat by a faster car........think about it!
Thanks to all who came out! I know who to call when I am going to the track for "fun".
"TAKE IT TO THE TRACK"

August 14th, 2003, 04:05 AM
yaya just like everyone said it was tons of fun guys!! both the cruising there and back and you can't forget the actual racing for sure!
this was my first time to a drag strip and was lots of fun, yes even in my auto P5, which everyone told me i had pretty good times for considering my car, and really i think i can do a little better without adding anything else
too bad there wasn't that big of a turn out because really there should be, its just you against the clock nothing else, no big shot attitudes either that you would find on the streets
i dont know what else to say besides it was just tons of fun! and everyone should try it out regardless of mods or anything else that you may have stuck in your head about why you will not take it to the track, even just to try it out . . which is why i went, and now after today i want to go again for sure
thanks goes out to everyone who showed up for a great time and espically to scott for getting this going

YI! That was some good racin'! I will most definitely come back for another one sometime soon...and hopefully prep my car a bit more (take all the shit out of the trunk and remember to keep my A/C off)...
...all in all, good times, Everyone who didn't come missed out and everyone who came went full out and burnt some clutch (or some torque converter).
Look forward to hittin' the rack again.
Shout out to Scot for organizing this meet...good job! Let's see some of you guys come out to an autocross!

Ah well I'm bored at work, so I'll type my best slip out...I'll post a pic of it tonight (not that I think any of you wouldn't believe i got high 16's.)
My 3rd Run:
R/T .711
60' 2.413
330' 7.032
1/8 Mile 10.885 @ 63.41 MPH
1000' 14.204
1/4 Mile 16.973 @ 82.46 MPH
I'm confident I can drop a couple of tenths next time by keeping my front pressures at ~35-37 lbs., running w/a non-slipping clutch (it slips a bit...and it only gets worse with consecutive hot runs), emptying my car (i had all my racing shit in there, so -100lbs if I remove it all) and take a dump.
Any comments are welcome...I'm still clueless on what to do to drop what times.

Mark, what times did you run? I wish I had known about this meet. Even though my Protege's getting painted/fixed right now, I would have brought my mom's Bonneville SSEi or something.
Mike, what tires were you running? If they're Azenis, you need to be running 22psi. If we run your Blizzaks, we'll start at 20psi, and slowly lower it, seeing if your 60' times get better. I'd like to take your car for a couple runs down the track, just to see if your car really is that slow....we have the same car, so you should be doing at least a 16.3 like I was when all I had was a muffler.
Hey everyone, post your times here...
