i got wooped once by a ricer........we were at the lights, i reved my engine......he reved his engine......i starred him down and continued with the reving......then the light turns green, he peels off the line and i accelerate normally (i.e. change every 3000RPM) and pass him as i see the cop that was waiting in the corner pull out after him for speeding.......hahahahaha.........never race ppl, but will egg them on to race cause they're ricers who think they're all that by putting all their money to make the car look like shit........guess he should have looked ahead of him before wanting to show me up.......hahahaha.........

does that count???

Best whooping I dished (and dish out whenever I can)... My good friend's 95 Civic Si.

Worst whooping I took. My mom in her BMW 330 xi. At the light I told her I could beat her. She laughed and said "let'z go assho!" (all in a Korean accent). I squealed she barely chirped with DSC and 4 wheel drive.... I lost to my mom.... Now who do I go running to?

Not in a p5 but i've been had on 401 by a souped up civic hatch. I was driving my Tiburon. It sucked cause the Tib was pretty fast.
Dave it sounds like you mammy is pretty cool.

A couple of saturday's ago, that night i saw your car Dave. I was driving my buddy home up Mt Pleasent Rd. Some guy in like a 91 Gti flew by me. He passed me and then we got a red light at St Clair, i was behind him and he moved over, my buddy said joking, "i think he wants to race", so i figured OK. I said to the guy, "lets go for a run". I had him from start to finish.

I had a 1 car lenght lead right off the start and beat him by about 2-3 car lengths by the time we were just south of Eglington Rd.
I'm guessing you don't believe me? I have evidence, me and my buddy were just talking about it last weekend.
I don't b.s. my stories.

The worst I got it was from an Eagle Talon....Going down Bramalea Rd in the 60 zone(2 lanes) at about 11:00 or 12:00 at night, spot a red talon(weird noise whenever he shifted...sounded like a blow off valve or something) anyways, pull up to a set of lights and we start toying with eachother cause there was a cop infront of us...the cop turned off and we both let it go(wasnt a stopped start)next thing I know I am doing about 160 down bramalea and he was still gaining quite a distance on me....Oh well, I lost...I knew I would, but it was still fun...I followed him around a bit cause I wanted to talk with him, but he was going way in the opposite direction...

Ya Nick if your not too modded dont mess with any kind of cavalier /sunfire if theyre 5 speed. To much torque. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

My worst beating in my pro was my first beating in my pro. I was behind some guy in an old escourt. (I know those things are fast but I thought I could get a good launch on him and beat him to the speed limit). So Im behind him at a set of lights and I saw him race some guy in a mini van who didnt even try. So I was like "TARGET SIGHTED" and I pulled up to him at the next lights.

The light went green and he got a way better start than I thought he would so I figured I had better make a really good shift to 2nd. But I missed the shift and ground the gears really loud and everyone heard. And it was the first time I had done anything bad to my new car so I was like OH SH7T!

If an Escort is fast, you just missed me speeding past you. Drove the first gen Escort in '82 - "the World Car". 1.6L rated @ 64 hp. 4 speed. Boring car to the max. Had the clutch smoking trying to drive up a hill (my first attempt at a stick shift). The last thing it was, was fast enough to get out of it's own way. So the newest one's gotta be like a bit faster since they're rated at a whopping 120 hp for the 2.0L. Maybe they only weigh 1800 lbs...
Crapalier or Sh*tfire fast? Sure, the older V6. Come on - their 2.2L is only 115hp! The newer 2.4L in the Z24 is 150hp. I'm sure the Z could take our cars any day, all factors equal. The joke is, after 3 years, those cars have lost half their original value. No resale. So they can keep 'em, faster or not.
Anyway, love the story about "egging" the guy on and having the cop go after him. I have that "bastardness" in me too when I see some punk beside me in a noisy Civic, his ball cap on backwards, with his school age girlfriend, sipping their WacDonald's shakes...music pumping away. One day I'll do the same when I spot the cop.
Being beaten by a late model Camaro? Here's a good laugh for ya. Last weekend when I was test driving the Matrix, the 21 yr old sales kid said he's paying $11,000/yr to insure his 310hp Camaro. NOW THAT'S PURELY, INSANELY FUNNY!!!! Sucks to be him! Man, sometimes I'm just all growed up.
So here's my "hang head low" story. But it doesn't qualify as a Protege story...nothing to report on the P5 race front. When I had my Shadow ES turbo (143 hp) 8 years ago, I thought it was a V8 killer. Was hammering on it pretty good up a steep grade one day leaving Kitchener toward Guelph when I spot a Prelude (late '80'/early 90's model) coming up on the left. So I floored it but the guy passed me like I was standing still. So I thought something was wrong. Ya, didn't realize the little Hondas move along nicely when they're revved up. Even having my turbo on the boil couldn't pass him. The auto had something to do with it as my 5 speed Le Baron turbo would have given him a good run. From a start, no contest. Now had it been a slalom, the Chryslers would have flown right off the track. Handling = 0. Good old domestic. Lots of engine, nothing to back it up.
Enough of my babbling...

I had my ass kicked far too many times to recall them all, A friend in his Eagle Talon was playing with me one night, we were going about 150ish when we hit the open stretch and he went passed me like I was standing still, I was givin her all she had, apparently wasn't enough. The absolute worst was an Astro van, kicked my ass from launch to finish. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/blush.gif I didn't realise it had awd, oops.

Dont mess with those vans.....vans in general. They hurt the most.

My favorite story:

5:00pm traffic. South bound on McCowan. TRAFFIC!!! No where to go. Stop and Go...you get the idea.

This 1st generation Civic, rusted, mis-matched rims pulls up beside me. Starts staring at my car and rims. The passenger and driving start to snicker. So he then tries to show off my weaving in and out of this CRAZY TRAFFIC to try and get a head of me. No matter which lane he chose I was always right behind or beside him. LOOSER!!!! Then he finally got ahead of me and continued to REV his motor and weaved somemore.

THE IDIOT DIDN'T SEE THE COP! He go pulled over!!!! I was laughing my head off. As eventually pulled up beside him I just looked at him and the passenger and start laughing!!!

LOOSER!!!!!!!!!!

How a bout a bit of reverse psych! This happened many years ago. I had an Austin Healey Bug-Eye with a 1275cc racing motor in it. The car wieghed all of 1300 lbs, and had 175 hp.

A jacked-up Camaro came up beside me and revved more as an insult than "do you want to race". I stood on the pedal, and watched as his driveshaft smashed into the asphalt and the U-joint came into the car to say "hello". As long as you didn't get over 90 mph, that Healey could spank anything and take its lunch-money.

I don't do that stuff anymore... but I still have my memories. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Shit, we are like bunch of old men at a retirement home arguing which one had more diseases and surgeries. Its really sad.
Lets just say that we bought our cars cause we loved them and not for the speed.

Speaking of speed has someone ever thought of sticking the twin turbo (newer) rx7 wankel engine into a P5. I would love to see that/hear about it/or best doit.

And if you think you could take a 2.2 cavalier I think my buddy Josh would be happy to shove your foot into your mouth. "Come on"? You should BRING it on. Those things have 115hp(no top end) but 135ftlbs torque. Not to mention a 300lb or so weight advantage over your wagon. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Simon - I've been in a rental Crapalier, yawn, it was a basic car. Yawn, 115hp and 135lbs torque vs 130hp and 135lbs torque. Yawn, could he beat me off the line? Probably - my auto won't jump a 5 speed unless the guy's a loser with the clutch (and there are lots of them). Yawn, lighter car - ya, looks like the metal is light - no wonder those cars are cheap, yawn...
Who cares? Like lizard said, we're sounding like old war vets trying to best each other with our fish stories! Let's not get outta control like the Toronto Street Racing board! Since you only have 105 hp, it's all about surprising the other guy, and having fun - hey, you're still young! I'm not - I'm old and crusty so I can say what I want! ha ha
Drove a new 4 speed Crapalier in '84 before I bought my Turismo Duster. The car was on two wheels around a corner in second gear with no power. Handled like a bathtub. Yawn. I can't forget that which is why I'm not a Crapalier fan. At least the Chrysler had some substance for the same price. I'm sure the new Craps are at least a bit better.
Josh will have to race some other fool - count me out. If that's the only car he can afford, I couldn't hold that against him. But if anyone had a choice, WHY would they choose a Crapalier? The new Crapalier is 140hp with the Ecotec motor (love how the domestics name their engines - not!http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif The styling is very Saturn - if you like that sort of thing. I don't. I like quality - I love P5!
I'm bored. Back to work...

Working nights and getting off work heading north on the Hwy# 410 from Derry Rd is quite remarkable. The long winding curve and double lane merging into the highway has great pickup.

I don't like to race people and win! I just like to get cheeky and cocky and tale them at the highest speed their car can handle. They usually ease up and I pull up alongside them, and they give me the nod of respect of what my they thought my Jap Trap car can handle.

I decided to join an late 80's 5.0 mustang I guess and a V6 late 90's Accord as they cleared traffic Northbound.

They noticed me merging hard and they let me tail for awhile until they left me at 195km/hr and the Accord seemed to be pulling away from the Mustang considerably.

I started seeing mist coming out of my A/c vents at the time and I thought I blew my engine or ruined something mechanically. I didn't feel that bad because I knew mechanically I was outclassed, but I found out later why my a/c misted on me.

I usually sprint with cars in my engine class and take on the occasional V6 domestic redneck buggers to show them what 'NIP' Engineering Is All About. Cavs, Sunfires, Neons, Elantra's, Sebrings,Pt cruisers etc. is what I concentrate on.

The occasional cult following of bratty integra and civic drivers, I pick my sprints carefully. I have pride for my fellow Nip Engineered Vehicles, but cocky Integra owners need to be taught that powered by Honda is not the gods of the street.

I should probably take off my 'Tckihara Headmen' sticker too. It may send the wrong message.

Sondra, where are the pics of you on your Kawa?! I wanna see them - big bike fan.
It was not easy giving up the sport after 20+ years but the P5 is (usually) worth it. Someday I'll get another and I will not settle for anything less than what I want. Love the retro Kawa GPz1100 or whatever they're calling it, and the Suzuki Bandit 1200S. Both great bikes!
Pics please! Post them in the gallery or a link to a website.
BTW, for the non-bikers, don't drag a bike unless you wanna lose. Even an old 400cc twin will leave you in its wake. My '81 GS650 Suzuki left a Corvette in my dust...until about 100mph.

Thanks, Mark http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I thought youguys didn't condone street racing??
Well anyways, I'vegot my own stories. A mere few days after purchasing my car, I was coming through the tunnel under the Welland Canal in Welland, and I saw a new(like 2000+?) Cavalier coming flying up behind me. I dropped to third, and took off, got to the lights outside the tunnel, and they got beside me. I hate cavalierstoo, but this guy probablywouldhavebeaten meif there were'nt4 people in his car, but we revved it up, I dropped my clutch, and he put his in to drive I took off from him and he never had a chance.
Next up, this was a couple weeks later, an older 2.8liter z24. Met him at the lights and he revved. So did I, He beat me off the line and up until the end of second gear, I was at his driver'sdoor when I put it into third and just pulled from there.
I slowed down to turn and he followed, he tried to pass me, but I decided to be an asshole and block him.
Another time was last winter, 95+ Cavalier, 2.2 I was in the turning lane and decided to go straight, he floored it at the green and so did I, making sure to not spin too much, I had him by the end of first gear. I got into his lane and once again played the part of the asshole. Thats about all I can remember for victories.
I haven't tried any newer z-24s or 3.1l Cav's or Sunchickens yet, I figure I'd get spanked.
So now on to the unpleasant business.
The most horrible loss I've had was a really old, CAvalier, probably1985 or so, z-24. I turned a corner and he was following me but was quite a bit behind, I stopped at the red light and it no sooner turned green, well, He had a running start, and I had about 500 pounds worth of crap in my car, because I was moving back to Niagara Falls from Lindsay having finished school for the year, It was also slippery because it snowed the night before. Anyways I got beaten.
Another time, I went up against a guy in an older Lumina, 3.1l I got spanked, a guy in a 97+ F-150, got spanked, Someone else in a 99+ GrandamGT could I really even expect to beat oneof these?? No, I've driven enough to know that they've got lots of low end torque, I learned that the first time by having thew wheel nearly ripped from my hands as I floored the boss's wife's at 20 kmh.

QEW on-ramp at Islington.
Me right lane, New Maxima(Lot's of horses) left lane. Going for the same on-ramp........he one.
Until we were both merging onto the QEW slung past him and said CIAO!!!
Not really having any beat me issues with the P5 - only top end speed - seems to stop at 185kms!!

I know that I'm a ho that is preaching to the good guys but something about posting street racing stuff stikes me as being a little juvenile and flaming macho. I thought the stories about getting our doors blow off were funny but when I start reading about 'bastard' type driving on this board it losses it's humour and starts reading like the 'other' boards out there in Web Land. Street racing stories are fun in person and should be shared at meets, that's all I'm saying.

I race the street too (I'm no dork Kranberry/BumbleG slow assed driver) but if I were to post about my races I think I'd come off as being a little boastful (if I haven't already! LOL)

I usually don't race guys that I think will actually beat me http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif, but I raced a guy in an older(93ish?)Cavalier RS(yes, a whimpy RS), 3.1 V6. We were tied off the line, and up to first gear, I totally blew it, and grinded like so many 'hoochies' at an RnB dance club. He kicked my ass for that race, but I knew I could beat him(my cars' gearing is tall enough to do 100kph in second, which saves shifting time on the street), but he totally shrugged me off after that, thinking I was a waste of time. I'm sorry I let the Proteges down guys...

as for the hair on his hands, that shouldn't impede his ability to tightly grip the wheel since i'm sure he's used to the forceful grasp and the strength of his forearm would probably provide more tension.........

well, solo races or not, i think w/o a girl, this boy's been flyin' solo all along..........

I think its more that he'll have too much hair on his hand to grip the stick when he solo races at night.

Please don't call the 91-93 3.1 V6 Cavs wimpy! I had one(91) and it ate very well. That engine is one of the best engines GM ever made and responded well to upgrades! Too bad no-one found me in my wimpy 3.1 Cav with the 3.8 under the hood!!! Being a sleeper was so much fun!
