I cant figure out a good place to jack up the car in the front to change the oil. The owners manual is vague when it comes to describing jack points. Its almost like they want you to take the car to Mazda for service or something http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

When I jack at the front I do it from the member that runs from the front to the the end of the engine. There is a small hump in this brace that I jack from. It's not exactly centre but it's safe nonetheless. Other than the point I hve described I don't really see another option.

When I use the usual jacking position (the side sill right behind the front wheel) I end up bending some of the sheet metal and some paint came off. I guess that position is only good for a lift or the spare jack.

When jacking from the side I use those side sills too. I don't mind the slight bending. It's the proper place to jack so I'm cool with it.

I think Ross and Moe have some bad jacking stories! LOL

I tried that brace, but it jacks the car up too uneven... it makes my jack tilt on three wheels. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif Do you think the brace itself, slightly to the left of the "hump" would be safe?

Hmmm my jack (2 1/2 ton) stays firm on the ground. But anything off that hump seems to actually flew the brace too much. I tried moving it to the point you described (right on the ledge but the brace started to twist and protest so I quickly lowered it before I even got the wheels off the ground. When you using a jack you should always use the jack stands I don't always - cause I'm a risk taker but if you jack is on three wheels I think it's some advice you should take! LOL.

Don't even think about getting under the car w/o a jackstand. The hydraulic valve in the jack can giveup without any warning and the thing will collapse. It's fun to get your hands dirty and spend time under the car but do it safely. The P5 doesn't have much ground clearance so if that happens it'll probably kill you even with the wheels on.

Well, my car didnt kill my buddy....I guess he was just lucky I wasnt under my car with him or we both would have been stuck. I had to jack the car back up listening to him telling me to hurry up cause he was having trouble breathing....ohh, the fun days....not really...

I purchased a set of ramps last year to do my oil. They were cheap and it's much safer! There is however minimal clearance just before the wheel hits the ramp, but it still clears it, so just go slow!

I am going to do my oil today because it's due and it's a perfect day outside to do it.
