I bought new wheels and tires today. The offset is +40 (They didn't have anything nice with +45 offset). So I guess I am taking my chances. Got the 205/40/17 tire.

I am getting everything installed tomorrow.....the question I had for you all is:

Should I pay the extra 100$ and get the Yoko Parada tires OR save the 100$ and stick with the Yoko Avid A4s?

I have the Avid H4's (205/40/17) and they are not bad on both dry and wet. They also have a higher treadwear rating (360) and that will result in excellent mileage. The Paradas (300 treadwear rating) on the other hand will stick better on dry conditions and definitely suited more for spirited driving but will not go as far as the H4's. I guess it will boil down to what you want, how you drive, or even cost...

looking fwd to seeing your new set of wheels!
but are you sure offset of 40 won't stick out too much?
i've heard people saying we need at least an off set of 45 and a perfect offset is around 48.

I got the 17" Motegi MR4 in gunmetal.   Keeping my fingers and toes crossed that they don't rub.

Got them at Wheel & Tire Zone.  Going to put them on either tomorrow early afternoon or Wednesday.

Familia...thanks for the info...going to stick with the Avid H4s afterall.

Chopstick, there weren't any nice wheels that came +45, in fact they only showed me 2 types, and I realy didn't like em.  I might get the rims machined  (think thats what you call it...)  Tom said it would only be 80$.

Since I don't know how to post a picture on this thing,

Saw those at the show a couple of weeks ago and drooled for a bit.

they look sweet, Sondra!
machining would probably be best cause that was how they got the Enkie RS6's to fit the 'COMPACT' white P5 and that car was lowered with Eibach springs at Avante....otherwise they would probably rub the fenders under hard cornering or big bumps.....i hope these aftermarket companies take notice....otherwise it's just a bit more work for Protege customers to get the rims they want

I'm sure they'll look great...can't wait till you pick them up!

Nice looking wheels Mike but you're looking at almost $3000 (after tax) without any rubber. Love the colour though.

One thing, is it possible to clean up the rust on the rotors? I hate that./...look terrible!

paint em.
same way you would paint the brake calipers. http://toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Before you paint your rotors, have them removed, Sondra.. then clean/remove rust stains, dust & other debris with aerosol brake cleaner. You can also use rubbing alcohol & cotton swabs to remove stains on the frictional part of the rotors. A good paint to use is a high-temperature rated paint, one that has a heat rating of at least 600 degrees. Just a word of caution if you're not removing your rotors.. make sure you don't spray on frictional surfaces of your brake pads and rotors. It will hamper brake performance.
