Before I can go and try to get some prices, I need to know how many people are seriously interested in the package deal.
We would have to come to an agreement on a few things.
Are we looking for 14" or 15" steelies new, or refurbished.
(14" are obviously cheaper for both the rim and the rubber)
Is everyone looking for more of an economy grade or performance grade tire? Any suggestions.

honestly, it's all depends on the price...
cuz i am kinda interested...but depends..on $$..
btw...i dun think 14" works on P5s since
it's too small..might rub the caliper...i heard

My 14's don't rub... real close, but don't rub!
I got 14" steel camry wheels and Blizzaks 185-65-14 I think

That would be interesting - are you thinking Cheap Thrills in Milton (for refurbished)?
dr_sarcasm.
P.S. I'd rather go with the 15", and refurbished.

This is my first time owning a car so bare with me...
Can I just buy Winter Rubbers and use my stock rim then change it back next year?
Also, I plan on buying 17" rims...Can my stock rubber handle our artic snow http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif

a reason for getting steelies is so that our factory rims don't get corroded by the salt and crap over the winter period.
however, if you are planning on getting aftermarket rims and don't plan on using your stock set of wheels, then take those tires off (sell them if you want) and put winters on them.
for most of us, we have stock wheels and don't have after market wheels so that's why we choose steelies.

It is clear as mud now http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
I guess I'll really have to decide whether I'll buy my 17" rims next year...
How much does steelies and winter rubber normally cost?

Mike: for 185/15's I think we're stuck with profiles of 55 or 65. Nothing comes up on any searches for winter tires with 185/60/15. So pick one.. over- or under- sized :|
Or go with 185/65/14. And many people have 14" rims on but they're not "recommended", and some people say it all depends on the steelie you get .. some 14's will fit over the brakes and others won't.
There's a new model from Yokohama. The AVS V901 winter high-performance tire that looks interesting. Although probably not very cheap.

Im in for wheels and tires.... 15 and as cheap as possible..

hmm... if it's either 55 or 65, i'd probably go 65 and get the more comfortable tires cuz with my eibachs on the ride will be harsh in the uneven road surface. hopefully a 65 will absorb some of the nasties.

I'm down too!!!
And I am craving to see what ultra-basement price we can get with 15" steelies to be on the safe side, and then I'll decide on the best tread characteristics, brand, tire size and profile to fit my budget.
Winters are tough in the Projects economically and forfeiting my November trip to the Dominican for winter tires may be the choice. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/blush.gif
I also would like the most highest profile I guess because I want bite. Screw the speedometer calibrations. I'll put 'post-it notes' of error corrections of city speed intervals on my speedometer.

I am interested in 15 steelies and good tires, I have already spoke to raymond about it, if you look in the Ask Raymond section. If people cannot agree on tires, we can just do a group buy on steelies and then everybody can get their own tires.

Good Idea!
I'm down with getting the Steelies with a group buy from the Cheapest Source, even if it happens to be Raymond.
I can scrape, rape, hold-up, and knockoff whoever/whatever and count the stash. Then, when I'm ready to buy my preference in tire I'll be the most happiest.

I'm requiring something for the winter, and as I won't be getting my wheels for a while, most likely, I'm thinking steelies, and to keep things nice and simple? i'm thinking 15".
I know nothing about wheels, or rubber, or much else for that matter, so y'all takin the lead on this is much appreciated.
Oh yeah, cheep is good!

What about just going to Canadian Tire. They sell steelies for less then 50 bucks each depending on size. The Canadian Tire winter tires are pretty good, been driving on them for three winters. They are cheap too.

OK......So far the best deal I have gotten is from Superior Tire.
I spoke with the owner and he said that the best possible size wheel for our car is 195/55/15
He is willing to sell us a combination of new or used steelies depending on which ones he has at the time.
He guarantees that if they are used, you won't be able to tell.
Anyways so far he has said that he will sell us the wheels for $40.00/ea
Tire options (So far)
Toyo Garet HT $119.00/ea
Dunlop Graspic DSI $100.00/ea
Both have pretty nice tread patterns and are pretty High quality winter tires.
I have him looking to see if he can put together a "Economy/budget Package"
If you want to check out the tread pattern go to
toyocanada.com
dunloptire.com
It seem like he really wants to work with us on this one.
I also mentioned to him possibly giving us a deal next summer on a group by for aftermarket rim and tire packages.
BTW Speedracer, Motomaster tires suck dick! (jk) oh wait a minute no I’m not.
I’ll keep you guys posted.

I've driven on Motomaster winter tires for 3 winter seasons doing pizza delivery in New Brunswick, while going to university. Never once got stuck.
In Toronto there is only going to be a couple of days where you will really need a good winter tire. Otherwise you will only be wasting the tires driving on dry pavement.

So what do people think of this deal?
I haven't gotten much feed back.
Are you guys/gals looking for a budget alternative?
BTW Speedracer I was just yankin' your chain, but I did have a Motomaster tire blow out at 175km/h, that's why I think they suck.

This deal looks pretty good, but I still have to decide if I want to do snows yet (see my thread on do I really need snows).
What kind of timing, etc are you looking at?
I have called around locally, and have a price (from a local Mazda dealer) of $840 before tax for 15" with 195/60R15 Michelin Arctic Alpin or Brigestone Blizzaks. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

Hey midnightp5 which location where you talking to and also if you could provide me with the name of the person. I will be interested. Most places are selling the Dunlop Graspic, they say that it's a really good winter tire. That deal sounds good, it would come up to 560 plus taxes.
