Mike managed to get this info for me

"hey! another 1st genner! wow. maybe i should read this board more often! anyway, to answer your questions...

1990 - 1500 made - in black, white, red
1991 - 1500 made - in black, white, red
1993 (Limited Edition) - 500 made, in black only

yes, all GT's are same car as the american LXs except we have better interior.

hope that helped!

Thanks Mike, and it officially makes my car HELLA-RARE. In case any of you don't know, Mike(Mike_Moss) is also getting a 93 GT. And yes, this makes my car rarer(I didn't say better) than the MP3. Woo hoo. I feel so lucky that I was able to find one. Turns out, Mike had done some research, and was looking for one of these bad-boys the same time I was. He looked at the exact same car at Peninsula Imports in Oakville, but decided not to go with it, because of the rust spots(my cars ugly Mr. Hyde side). What's the deal with Mazda Canada? Only bringing in 500 cars with a twin cam, and 4 wheel discs for A WHOLE YEAR?? Mike, would you be able to find out how many LXs where sold in the US in 93? haha, have fun with that one...

so what are the specs of this rare edition?

September 17th, 2002, 09:36 PM
Nothing to write home about really. It's the American LX(BP-ZE motor w/125 hp, 114 lb/ft, four wheels discs[all other 1st Gen Proteges in Canada have rear disc], 14" alloys w/185/60s, spoiler/sunroof(which are options on the US LX), and what makes it unique, is the interior[sport seats]) The only 1st Gens in Canada with the DOHC, were the GTs. And oh, they all have cheesy red striping around the car(but I love it). They are a pretty light car though. 2359 lbs. I quote the Road Report Buyers guide for #s
0-100kph 8.8
Standing 400m 16.5 sec
100-0 braking 40m
top speed of 185 kph
lateral acceleration 0.80 Gs

like I said, nothing really special like the MP3. I really don't know why there are only 500, but I'm happy there are http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Are those numbers for all of Canada...if they are then their is only 250 MP3's in Canada

Holy Crikey, people sure are sensitive today. Why are people taking me so seriously up in here, I was just joking around. I didn't say you cared who's car is rarer. I think I'm just going to crawl back into the hole I came from.....

If you're going to joke about anything...tip...add a little "hee hee" or "hahaaha" or maybe a "just buggin'" cuz it's harder when you can't hear the tone of voice that it's being said in. Just a tip for next post humour! http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

ahem, may i offer some more info?  the GT's were originally run from 90-91.  in 93, they ran 500 more because of mazda canada's 25th anniversary or something like that.   the 90-91 GT's have a nice oem spoiler that is higher and wraps around the car more but has a huge, ugly, rectangle brake light.  the 93 has a lower profile wing that doesnt exceed the edge of the trunk but does have a nice long LED brake light.

the GT's and 4WD 1st gen protege's are the only cars to have 4 wheel disc.  all others have front disc/rear drum.

if any of you have heard of a-spec, they dropped a v6 klze (jspec engine from mx-3) into a 91GT which produced low 13's quartermile with bone stock car.  check it out:  http://protege.a-spec.ca

ok, i'm done. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
