I called Brullen and talked to Richard about removing the 2nd cat and replacing it with a down tube..

the price he gave me was:

$168.75 + tax = $194.06 (installed)

I was told to post this to see if other people would be interested in doing this as well.. cuz he may lower the price depending on how many people want it done!

As stated by Dave (MP5Navy)

Call up Brullen and get them to replace your down tube ($150). I had this and other stuff done at Brullen but the down tube change was the best exhaust mod so far - more pull in the top end and less bog down at the start of acceleration.
<span id='postcolor'>

Richard will remove the second cat and replace the pipe that goes between the bottom of the first cat back to where the flange is before the resonator. This tube is mandrel bent stainless 2.25.
<span id='postcolor'>

Sorry i'm too lazy to type all that out.. but Dave best explains what the down tube is and does! http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif

honestly, if it adds acceleration from dead start...i'm in...
i'm not really intersted in high ends power....
i want some torque, some low ends...
i want to feel the instant power when i hit the
gas at a traffic lite......i'm in..if is $150 all included tho...

if you want that, then get a turbo, supercharger or NOS. A pipe won't help you &quot;jump&quot; off the line. anyways, Dave said the downpipe broadened the powerband a little and really helps after 120km/h. So there's definitely some highend power after removing the cat and adding the downpipe. It sounds nice too....

how long does it take to do a job like that? i might consider doing that if the price is right.......although debating on whether i want to do it now or wait til early part of next year since winter is coming around soon and damn i hate salt water!

Keep me informed . What about the second O2 sensor ?Emissions,what effects will there be? I think the Turbo guys will realy be interested in this as it opens up the exhaust flow .

My two cents, it's good, got it done two weeks ago. Adds some extra torque (and noise) at around 4000rpm. It is pretty decent for a relatively cheap mod. When you go in bug him about headers...

A new O2 sensor bung hole is made right after the first cat.
You will probably not pass emissions but when you need to go get the car tested you can re-install the stock down tube.

Good luck with the headers from Bruellen, I think he put that on the back burner. If you want them the short equal lengths are out and the full length
4-2-1 will be available soon.

HOW MUCH? Whats your opinion on this mark? Gains? I know it sounds better.

Not sure on the final price but it should be in the ball park of $700 for the shorty. It really helps in the bottoms of th gears. I havn't had a chance to dyno it yet but that will be coming soon. The 4-2-1 headers will be more but take out the 1st stock cat and replace it with a larger diameter opening one further down.

In reference to emission testing with the pre-cat removed, the pre-cat was originally installed for one purpose, cold start emissions (fed. government requirement). Since it's for cold-start emission testing, almost all cars including my own G2 Protege (passed two emission tests already) equipped with a downpipe (pre-cat removed) passes our emission testing here in Canada since our testing is more of an exhaust sniffer test. Although it is illegal on a street-driven vehicle, no one including the cops will know or detect, unless they do a visual test underneath your car. As for performance gains, Chops and Dave said it right, gains are in the mid-high power band.
