I just had my rims put on today. 17"(generic brand, but they look nice), with 205/40/17s. Kumho Escta Supra 712s. Originally I was going to get Pirellis PZeros, or Potenza S-O3s, but they would have cost $800 more!!! than the Kumho. So I came home disappointed and did some research.

turns out, they're pretty good tires, ESPECIALLY for the money. So I went with em(because of the package price deal). I didn't want such a big tire/wheel either. They're taller than factory, so I've just increased rolling diameter, which makes the final drive ratio higher too. Which means I have slower acceleration, but higher top speed. I can feel the acceleration loss too. Hopefully at the drag strip, the traction benefit will cancel that out. I put in my K&N too, so that should give me a horse or two.
And with the larger wheels, I'm in dire need of some lowering springs(which means I'll need dampers). No biggie, I was going to get them anyways. And yes, because of the small slip angles of 40 series tires, I'll have to re-adjust my skills, when it comes to driving at the edge. I'm not sure my 4-wheel drifts we be so easily provoked. But needless to say, I'll be able to corner, with more force, with ease, not even nearing the limit, compared to driving at the limit with my puny 185/60/14s.
I've already taken some before and after pictures, and once I use up the other 15 pics on the roll, I'll have them developed, and posted....
