View Full Version : Engine knock.

I'm driving a 01 corolla as my beater this winter, and came across something interesting.

I get a ridicilous amount of engine knock at WOT and the ecu retards timing massively resulting in an even slower corolla.

It's sooo slow I almost go backwards.

Today i accidently put in 94 octane cus I was too busy checking out a chick in high heels pumping gas, the apple bottom view wasn't the only benefit of this mistake, the engine has completely stopped knocking, ign timing is at high 20's at load and there's actually power.

i know there's more power too, cus it spins the wheels from a stop. it didn't even do that in the rain prior to this.

the car is completely stock other than my scanguage, which i'm using to monitor water temps so i know when to blast the heater and not get cold air. the only motor work that was done was the head gasket was changed years ago.

what could cause this? why does it knock with 87 and not 94, when it's meant for 87. could the head gasket result in a higher compression that would need knock resistance power of 94?

or is it just coincidence? and i shouldn't get used to the car moving fast?

carbon build up in the engine resulting in higher compression

seafoam the shit out of it!

Was thinking carbon as well...but in an '01?

Lots of mileage or me forgetting that 2001 is now 9 years ago...

tends to happen when you use shitty gas

i ran sea foam through it two weeks ago. maybe i should give it another bottle.

i put it in the tank, oil and vac line. smoke show baby!!

PS I do like your thinking

you're doing it wrong if you're smoking the shit out of it like all the n00bs do on the US board... you need to restrict the line being fed with seafoam and let the engine suck the seafoam in SLOWLY at idle.... it should take at least 10 mins to empty the can

doing it fast does nothing except do crazy shit like shorten your cat's life... doing it slow means it has time to clean the engine

how do you restrict the flow?
pinch the hose?

the car dies as soon as i let go of the vac line. pretty shitty idle.

i never really cared for felines in the first place.
