So you iPhone freaks, who is going to try hooking up their beloved iPhone to a compatible double din head unit

I keep thinking all you need for the iPhone is a compatible display and hook in to the hands free controls on the steering wheel and speakers and you're set.

can't this already be done through any bluetooth audio and phone capable HU? I just put a $200 sony in my MSP that has both BT audio and BT phone... the audio part streams from my phone, but I thought I read that BT audio supports iPhone play/pause/track control functions though I might be wrong .. and BT Phone.. all of it works fine through the HU...

Iphones seem to have issues with streaming audio through bluetooth. I think it was some audio profile that was left out when the iphone was made - even though it is basically standard on all other cells.

Easiest integration would be a deck with iphone USB control - I like alpines or pioneers interfaces the best. Get full control from the deck, shows album art, and movies. Then you just need a steering wheel control adapter, to use the pioneer deck with your steering wheel controls.

question. Is there a steering wheel with stereo control stock on a mazda car, that I could swap to my P5?

My mazda3 has cruise control on one side of the wheel and stereo controls on the other side, built in and illuminated with the interior lights Most new mazdas are like that I think... Dunno if they are "swappable" between different models...

I would like to do this, but I have an older Kenwood unit that I don't think is compatible with iPhone... is there anyway around this without buying a new head unit? Like maybe hooking bluetooth up to it and connecting the iPhone that way?

^ You try using an iPod cable? I've got iPod cables hooked up in both my cars and even though both decks (Pioneer AVIC-D3 and Alpine CDA-9886) aren't iPhone compatible it still works. The only issue is the iPhone won't charge while plugged in like an iPod would.

^I have an iPod cable hooked up to it right now with my iPod but seeing as how like yours, it says it's not iPhone capable I though I was going to have to do something different for it to work. I guess we'll have to see though because I haven't actually got the iPhone yet... just doing some investigation.

^ If you can use an iPod then you'll more than likely be able to use a iPhone just won't have the charging feature.

What deck do you currently have? Once you get an iPhone use it as an excuse to upgrade to a new deck :p

sometimes it does charge the phone; but the "iphone not supported" deals with not being able to take calls so it asks you to enter airplane mode.
