I've fiddled with various tire pressures to try to get a nice handling setup. Still can't find the sweet spot.

Oh well, at least it will be fun to test out the P5 on the track.

Track tire pressures are VERY different that solo II tire pressures.

What have you decided on so far?

Not sure yet.

Lapping isn't until Sat July 5 evening.

Here's what I found for "street" use:
I've had them all around at 38 [that's what they were from the dealership].

At 51 F /45 R.

32 all around.

48/42

42/36

Now 38/34.

At 51/45, they were good at "low" speed cornering [i.e. the common intersection left hand turns].  I could do them in 3rd gear instead of 2nd = faster exit speed.
Problem was that the grip didn't feel as high as lower pressures [crowning tires?].

I might pump them to 51 all around, then adjust them at the track.  Who knows.  I don't have enough "seat time" in my car.

I'm hoping that it rains. Love driving in the rain. *yup, I'm weird*.

The stock dunlop 5000's ?
Yes you'll lose grip when pressures are too high.
Generally, run them just high enough to stop them from rolling over on the sidewall at the front. Then adjust the rears to give more or less oversteer.

Somewhere in this range should work out well
 48/42
 42/36
Maybe even as low as 40 in the front? Depends on the course layout and what you think gives the best balance to the car.

EYT may be going to that same lapping day ...

Yup.  The stockie's.

If I was really hardcore, I would make the right side of the side of the car different than the left b/c of the predominant right hand turns.

Nope. Don't wanna mess up the handling that way.

I agree with Rowan, 40-42 in the fronts and 36 in the rear. That should work well on a twisty track such as Shannonville. It would be nice if you can hook up some real good rubber though to push your Protege harder, but your stock will do (to a point however)... Should be fun ! http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif

Nice fun day on the Fabi Circuit.

People couldn't believe that my ride was totally stock, whereas the other rides had way better rubber.

Track was nicely suited for the P5.  Nice and twisty.

2nd gear used a bit, 3 and 4 mostly.  Hardly had to use 5th.

Hardly had to use the brakes.

I finally settled on the pressure of 40/36 hot temp after a few laps.  I'll let you know what it is cold in the morning but I like the 4 psi difference instead of the 6 psi.

Might experiment with a 2 psi difference another time.

Problem was, I couldn't get any lift throttle oversteer.  It was too firmly planted in back.
A short stab on the brakes helped that.

What I really needed is a 4-1 header for high end power. $$$$!

Yes I ran off a few times. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif

I did see a silver P5 and a orange Mazdaspeed across the field running the Nelson Circuit.

Sounds like a fun day ! Well, the Proteges and the older 323's always do well on that track, as well as Civic hatchbacks. What we lack in straightline power, we make up on the bends and hairpin. Great to hear you and your Protege did well. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif

The cold pressures are 39/36 in the garage.

Very nice! http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Glad you had a good time, and your Protege got noticed too!
Shaping up to be a good season for Proteges on the track and parking lots.

as far as i notice at track, there is hardly and highend is needed. ... well i did nelson, so i found that the low end torque is more important...

just my 2 cent..

i think we should organize a track day...any comment

Yeah, I found myself taking the corners really fast and the P5 sticks all the way.

It's the exits of the corner where the RPM's are down too much.

Yes I know that I should enter the corners slow and power through it, but I was having WAY too much fun!

My tires are in a bit of rough shape though.
