xm radio static

so I picked up xm a week ago or so and it has been great. The only real complaint is that I find I am getting alot of static. I am pretty sure I did the install right as it isn't rocket science. The only thing I can think of it being is the antenna, as the protege has the worst antenna I think Ive ever seen. Anyone have any thoughts on what it could be? and if you think its the antenna is there any upgrades you can do without installing those beast antennas

Didnt you get an antenna with the system?

When I had sirius (even if it was only for a day), it came with an antenna that looked like a disc (only half the size). If so, stick it to the top of the hatch on the inside.....

did that, and theres also a thing you clip to your outside antenna
