I just finished installing my air horns on the Protege, it was pretty simple and it took me about an hour and a bit including fiddling with the grill (first time taking it off) and trying to find my tools.
Most Air horn kits come with hardware required, I have a Monza kit which has separate horns and mounting hardware for each horn/trumpet, where as the FIAMM kit has the horns mounted on a single bracket so they're a 1-pc deal. Both are currently available at Princess Auto, the Fiamm is also sold at Canadian Tire.
-Remove Grill by using a clip removal tool or a plastic crowbar ($1 at Dollarscama) to remove the plastic clips attaching it to the rad support, I used the crowbar since my clip tool has gone missing. There are also two screws that you undo on each end of the grill.
-Remove the horn by unclipping the power cable first, then the bolt holding the bracket.
-Once the horn is removed, use a 17mm socket and remove the big bolt on the back of the horn that holds the bracket in place as you will need this bracket.
-depending on your kit you'll have to find a place to mount the horns, since mine is the Monza kit, I used the two bumper tabs that stick out under the rebar, drilled two holes and mounted the horns on each one. (I don't like this location right now as the back of the horns hit one of the AC lines, but this would only be trouble if you bump another car OR they bump you hard enough to break the line)
-Using the bracket from the horn, mount it to the air compressor with the hardware provided and install it on the same spot as the old horn, the compressor will have to go sideways instead of up/down as it will hit the back of the grill otherwise.
-You will now have to run a wire from the horn clip to the positive terminal on the compressor as the horn clip/wire is not long enough to reach in this position. Also another wire will now need to be run from the negative terminal on the compressor to a somewhere on the body to be properly ground, I used one of the bolts on top of the rad support, works fine.
-re-install the grill and redo the clips and screws and you're now ready to give old ladies a heart attack with the loud horns.
