make sure you have a place for the bird to get into the house :p

lulz. ya i know that much.

but srsly.. do you like put food inside? or is it intended specifically for nesting purposes?

also hole size? does is it relevant to the types of birds it attracts?

roof is good too. what if it rains?

and more seriously - depending on the type of bird yo'ure trying to attract there are specific designs and colours that attract them, different styles of entry and different sizes of holes (get your mind out of the gutter), different mounting heights (yes, some bird houses can sit on a table outside, some have to get mounted on top of a 30 foot pole...

So, just building a square box with a roof and a hole in the front isn't maybe the best approach... even though it probably will work...

I would say for the hole ..... the bigger the better ...... but not to big as you don't want it to become a squirrel house :p

Put it in a place where you got a clear shot at it with your bb gun or sling shot.

I think nesting only. I've never put food inside a birdhouse but had a separate feeder where the food would go.

I guess those will be ok. Any suggestions as to what food to give them? I'd like the keep them around long enough for photo sessions.

I was actually hoping i'd be able to attract these.

so i could utilize the aforementioned BB gun suggestion.
