View Full Version : painting the inside of headlight housing

There is a black protege that has the inside housing of the lights painted black. It kinda looks like MP3/GT lights but with the P5 setup.
I have also seen a mazda prepared P5 (silver with orange and blue graphics- on the new extensive picture website) that had the inside painted see through blue.

I love that "see through blue" look (versus the chrome silver stock look)
Could someone who has done this provide instructions on how to remove the light and paint it. Also what is the best product to use ( is there a blue tinting spray or film)
Thanks

nice touch "yellowmp5"..... I was thinking about doing something like that to my G3 tails but I haven't gotten aournd to it. I'm also wondering how and what you used to black out your chromey mazda emblem on the front grill??? I'm dying to do that to my G3....

all u have to do is buy tremclad high heat enamel paint in a spray bottle. i used 2 cans.
u take off bumper. and grill u dont have to.
but either way take out the headlight.
take off all screws on headlight and take off all rubber pieces but remeber where and how they go on.
next heat ur oven to 350 degress.
and put one head light at a time
for about 5 mins. or less u will tell cuz u will be able to pull them about with some elbow grease!
make sure u wear gloves.
now when its apart dig out some of the marine silicon used and now take the chrome housing that will fall apart and bring it outside.
spray nice coats of the high heat enamel (flat black)
and volia
do that 2 times
next when sealing u must use silicon. fill it generously along edges and pur the screws back in and all the parts and now put the stuff back on the car and now u are done.
it will condense at first but after the first day it will be perfect.

SORRY NO PICS - ride under construction. but i think i was the first considering i had this done the 2nd day i had the car. that was 1.3 years ago. lol

EVERYTHING I DO IS A SECRET TILL ITS DONE.
