View Full Version : Road Rally?

I was having a chat with Mike on Sunday in Brampton about some kind of scenic cruise, and I got to thinking about having a toprotege road rally.
I think I could talk my local club (Peterborough) into hosting this event, we've got some beautiful roads here and I think we could put together a really fun event that would take say, 3-4 hours of driving around the countryside.
Would anyone be interested?
I think 10 teams or so would be necessary to pull this off (a team would be 2 people per car, this would make a fun "signifigant other" event too.
FYI
I'm thinking of a rally with really simple instructions, with speeds appropriate to "cruising".
Let me know if you've got questions!
Edit: Second thought!
We could finish this with a bar-b-q at a beach!
I know some really nice spots around here.
EDIT:
Clarification:
This event will START IN PETERBOROUGH, and FINISH IN PETERBOROUGH AREA.
List of possible teams, date of July 13??
MP5Navy (Dave) and ?
Mike Moss and ?
Sky_High (Jeremy) and ?
Johnny5 and ?
Nicholas13 (NIck) and ?
The good Dr. (Moe) and ?

Cardemon (Mike) and ?
Only 2 more to go!
Note: I'm assuming all you interested folks plan on bringing a navigator!!

I'd like to make it conditional on weather.
Nobody wants a cruise and BBQ at the beach in the rain...
Any dates people are interested in?
some ideas for dates:
July 12 or 13
August 13
An approx. schedule would be:
12:00 noon register, mini rally school to make sure no one will get lost! http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif , 1:00 first car leaves.
rally for 3-4 hours
BBQ served at 5:00 somewhere with water to play in.
Cost would be around $20-$25 (covers insurance). I think we would have to look at "providing" food dependant on the number of people that would like to do this.

HAH! I was talking about road rallying w/Simon on saturday. I am there!
Not the 12th. TLMC event on that day!
13th looks alright!
Also, feel free to bump up the fee for including lunch. This is a big bonus IMO and saves everyone alot of time.

BUMP for more interest.
If I want to get going on this, I will have to start organizing soon, about 1 month before the event.
So if you're interested, or have questions, post here!!!!!!

Bump!
Anyone else interested???
It's a nice relaxing drive to Peterborough, and the route I am thinking of is quite nice.
There is NO RALLY EXPERIENCE necessary, I'll make the instructions easy for everyone (the point here is a cruise with a hint of competition).
The beach I am also thinking of usually has nice scenery too!

I'm going to see what kind of interest I can drum up at MOM tomorrow for this.
If I don't get a strong response, this event will have to die...

NNoooo!!
Well, I hope you are able to convince people at MOM.
Maybe the Miata club (yeah, right) would be interested?

All right folks!
I've got some interest from 6 people for this event, as stated before, I need 10 people to tell me they are interested.
Moe told me he didn't want to put his name down because he doesn't like to sign up for stuff too early.
Well, too bad Moe, you're listed!
I understand that some people might be hesitant to sign up for something 3 weeks away, but it's going to be a lot of work (and gas money) on my part to put this together.
This will be a very fun event, so sign up!!!!!

Count me in! Just got back as the co-driver for my buddy in the Ontario-Quebec Grand Prix Club road rally. It was about a 3 hour event with it ending right near lake simcoe. This is an excellent way to spend a Sunday afternoon, I highly recomend that everybody par-take in this event. BTW Logan can the course go by the beach at any point in time? The GP guys made their course go along the beach for about 1/2 an hour... We forgot what we were doing for at least 15 minutes! LOL.

July 3rd, 2003, 08:22 AM
I'm not sure if this event will be ready for the 13th of July.
We might want to try the August date I was thinking of.
More time for me to prepare, and more time to get more interest from all the people that wanted a nice cruise!
(Where are those people?)

I'm interested too. It all depends on the date though.

So if I move this to August 16th, will people be happy with that?
There is a PITTL event the following day.
This time in August still makes for good beach weather!

Sorry Doug, but if it's August, I'm probably out. http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif I was pushing for the 13th for that reason.
And if I am able to come, I won't know til a week or two before.

Doug,
DO NOT make it the week of the Aug 16th. I will be in Algonquin park.... but I don't want to miss out on your 'Road Rally' either!

Alright folks, I have two dates that are available to me.
July 13, and August 16th.
This assumes we want to do this during the summertime.
We can move it to the fall, if everyone wants to have a "fall colours cruise/rally".
I'm going to see if I can edit a poll into this post for dates, if not, I'll start a new thread.
Mike_Moss
July 3rd, 2003, 12:13 PM

Per my road rally poll thread, it looks like there is more interest for this event to happen in the fall.
Two things:
1)
Relieves my current level of stress, I can now procrastinate on this event for the rest of the summer.
2)
This will probably be a better event, crazy pissed off cottagers wont be such a concern, because they probably wont be around.
Keep voting all that haven't yet voted.
I'll probably just pick a date in late september now (still nice weather, cool colours comin' out).

you've been doin' a great job organizing this, Doug...keep it up.
just wanna bring up something:
i think that most are thinking this is a "sunday driving" type of cruise and not a road rally.
even-so, its all good w/me, as long as there are people to take up spots. someone has to fill last place, right? http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Mike,
This will be more of a sunday drive, unless you folks want a real rally.
I wanted to make something really simple with regards to timing and actual rally stuff.
It's also easier to organize.
Since it appears this won't be happening until the fall sometime, would people be interested in more of a real rally? Of course, a rally school before the rally would not be a problem.

I'm still in, and I'd actually like to see if this could go more along the lines of an actual rally. Of course, since I have absolutely no monds to my car, I guess I have to ask what sort of equipment we'd be looking at in order to make this more of a true rally experience. Either way, I'll be there.
