I read on protege5.com forum that A-Spec from Etobicoke has done few turbo 2001-2002 Proteges. Anyone on this list?
Also, I've heard that A-Spec are ignorant butchers and can offer 16psi non intercooled kit for Miata. Can they be trusted to do such a project?

A-spec is pretty well known for their work on MX3s and 323s...mostly 2.5LV6 conversions and turbos for the 4 cylinder engines!

I've been there a few times with my friend Jay, he drives a 93 RX-7. Jay has always gone there to do work on his car. Over the xmas holidays, somebody ran into jay's car and mashed it up. He brought it to A-Spec and they made his body look brand new. I've heard good stuff about them too.
You should check out the RX-7's the owners are building... pretty sick....

Is the $3000 kit intercooled?

Is this Turbo shizzle for real? Is this stuff being done right now? I would like to see and install. If Turbo can be done at this price I'll forget about Nitro.

I used to go to A-SPEC every week, and all i can say is other than the fact that you usually wait a long time to get work done, they strive to do their best!!
THings i have gotten down there:
Under drive pulley's
Rebuild my tranny and diff
Timing belt, water pump
Brakes
Engine diagnostics
Oil changes
etc. etc.
Really good place and anybody that talks shit about them just doesn't know how much they know about mazda's.

Beullar, Beullar. Seriously where is this place? I wanna see an install and get some specs to see how good it really is. $3000 isn't bad at all for 50 whp all the time. Nitrous will get you that once ina while and have you running to the store every weekend to fill your bottle. A screw it do both.

Here's hte deal on the turbo from A-Spec. It's all custom made and costs roughly $6500 for the complete installation of everything. It's money up front and they need your car there for a month. It has a front mount intercooler and they said it can push upto 10 psi safely. I doubt that but be warned that it isn't a kit and it isn't cheap. But at 10psi you could probably ge another 75 to 100 ponies.

At 10 psi, not only would we be getting more ponies but also new rods, pistons, head gaskets, etc!

Hmmm, around 200 horses for sure.. A little expensive but hey, these guys know what they're doing. I know a couple of 323's that have posted 13 sec/times on the quarter mile from that shop. I think they're pretty reliable.. If I keep my little G2 grass-cutter for a little while, I may just do that BP-T swap too.. http://toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

hehehe...Navy U SOOOOOOO CRAZY...
yeah, I guess you can tack on a new hood too, cause after a couple of rods and pistons go shooting through it, I think repairing the holes will be a bitch!
honestly though, I don't have a damn clue what I am talking about, but when I read Navy's post, I got a funny visual!

That's what I was afraid for-10 psi is just on the limit for the FSD engine. On another hand, if it's custom made, they can tune it to run less boost, right?
What I really don't like is that A-Spec doesn't share any details about what components are going into kit.
They say "all gadgets". Hmmmm. Whats' that shit with money up front? Do I have to bring cash?
I am going turbo, that's decided-I am not spending any money on cams or pulleys, everything will go to "Alexes turbo fund" Donations are welcomed http://toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I have dealt with A-SPEC on numerous occasions...
I will tell you they are highly experiecned with rotaries and KL motors..
But i don't know how well versed they are with F-SEries motors..
I don't think they realize how inferior it is compared to the older BP motors.
I mean, they know alot about the BP motors but not the F 2.0L motors..
But in any event, you should be fortunate that we have a mazda only garage willing to work on our cars..
Hey ERIC, the BPT swap in the second gen is going to be quite the task..
I have found out that the 2nd gen proteges use the weake F25M-r trannies as opposed to the stronger G25mR trannies in the 1st gens..
THus the BPT motor does not bolt on to the tranny ... extensive modifications are required to use the G-series tranny..

Ed B (minirx7), I figured the tranny would be a problem, so it will depend on the cost of the whole project before I make that decision. I really like the BPT though, one of the best ever, race prepped & very strong.. Anyways, when are we going to meet, huh ? Are you going to the organizational meeting ? http://toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Btw, great choices for your future car..
