I have decided to scrap the turbo idea for now and I am going to get the FS-ZE engine and do a swap with the money I had saved for the turbo. Does anyone in the club deal with or know anyone at corksport?
Also, what car does this engine come from?
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanx

hmmmm.....if you are you going to spend the money on an engine swap....
why not swap in the KL-ZE motor. its the V6 power house from Japan. Many of my 626/MX6/MX3/Probe buddies have done this swap and you can get some killer NA HP from that bad boy.
I'll find out where they buy the motors from here in TO.
Keep you posted. Id love to help you out on that kind of a swap.

Although this may sound like a great idea, please read some of the engine swap stories on the PROTEGE MP3 / P5 FORUMS (http://forum.protegemp3.com/vbb225/). A few people have swapped their engines for the FS-ZE and found that there have been only minimal increases. Keep in mind that the J-spec FS-ZE is rated in JAPANESE HP which is calculated differently than it is here. The U.S. equivelant HP numbers are almost right at 160. That's a lot of money to spend for a normally aspirated 30 HP. We can get that on ours with the proper stand alone, the J-spec cams, a header, an intake and a better cat back. Also, we have a compression ration that is better suited to forced induction. Anyways, the japanese ECU is hard to come by and is overly expensive, but if you do get one, it will help increase hp and torque by at least 5 each. I say go for the Turbo.

Thanx for the input guys,
I was talking with corksport about the swap and the guy actually recommended AGAINST it! I couldn't believe he said that but it made some sense....he mentioned some of the things that you did chopstick.
I knew that I could get the same power with other upgrades but my main reason for a swap is to get an engine that is a little more enduring once a turbo is put on. I love the engine in my car now but I find it a little suspect when it comes to putting a turbo on it....I just don't see it holding up very well (my gut feeling). I'm not going to spend thousands on a turbo to run a wimpy 6-9psi for fear of blowing my engine. For me my goal is to have an everyday driver capable of 14psi (anymore then that is a little out of hand....after all its no RX7!http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
I am interested in that V6 YP5....I will talk with you more about that.

The KLZE V6 motors are available at A-Spec in Etobicoke. These motors are rated at around 190 HP and comes with a stroker kit. As Jason mentioned, they are quite popular with the MX-3 enthusiasts and have come up with great results as far as performance is concerned. I also know a a couple of older 323 hatchbacks and a first gen Protege that have these motors and they are feared in the drag racing circles, capable of doing 12 sec (1/4 mile) each time out. As for the FSZE, they are known to be strong engines and resilient, much like the BP engines, though the BP's are still the number one choice of serious racers. They may not have impressive numbers as far horsepower goes, however internally, they are well equipped if forced induction is in your plans.

Japanese HP? You gotta be kidding me!
What is kW number? Must be ~121 kW~170hp everywhere in the world.
As for topic-yeah, it's a very expensive way. For $3000 us +install+tuning you be better off bolting on everything you can find and do headwork if you insist on NA-with some money left over. And extra 30 hp will not make your car fly.

Try the 5-6 psi, rods and pistons are in the works. Then go up to 10-12 hell try 14. These engines will be able to take it it just takes time to get the parts made. These engines are relatively new to te tuners and the after market is just starting to take off. I do also see the advantage of doing an engine swap as you always have an engine in your car, even when you are working on it.

Thanx for all comments guys,
As far as money is concerned I have a pretty good budget to work with so I plan on getting the swap as well as doing up the stock engine. I will just put the stocker on the hoist in my garage and add parts when they come out. In my previous experiences with building up solid engines on new models is that it usually takes at least 2-3 years for every part to get out to the market and be TESTED. I am not going to grab any new part just because its available.
Thanx tax for pointing me to the right people....I will talk with those guys as well as Familia. I am in no rush, I don't need it done tomorrow or anything, I am going to get start in late fall, but its nice to know that there are some other people that are knowledgable and local.
"12 second 1/4 everytime out" on an everday driver would be quite nice!

Jason, your buddy with the KLZE 323, is it Mike or Edwin (Filipino guy) ? I met both of them as well as another fella with a black first gen Protege also with a KLZE a couple of years ago. I know what they're capable of. One of them embarassed a modded M3, just plainly smoked him. These engines mated with the right tranny and suspension on a Protege will embarass many highly-rated and should I say more expensive Japanese, European and American sport vehicles out there. The FS 2.0L however has a lot of potential as many internal parts have been developed coutesy of Mazda Motorsports (Competition Parts), Racing Beat and Tripoint Engineering, so it's not a bad base engine to start with for the G3 and P5 enthusiasts, as already proven by P5 2 NV and CruisingblackP5 (NOS ready).
