hey all,

(pardon me if this post isn't in the correct forum)

wondering about the stock shifter on the P5... it sure looks like Mazda tacked on an extender of sorts to lengthen it. what IS that thing anyway? can it be removed? if so, has anyone done it? and if so are the threads underneath compatable with the knob?

while this wouldn't reduce the throw as significantly as a proper short-shifter it would help a bit.

while most of you will tell me to go buy a proper short shifter, i lease my P5 so any mods I do I want to reverse quickly before taking it to the dealer for service...

you can try to pry it off....but many of the people in the club used a heat source to free up the glue used to stick it on.

Its really straight foward.

visit www.twmperformance.com

they have step by step instructions on how to remove the center console.

If you are worried about your dealerships reaction to a short shifter why don't you just call them and ask if a short shifter will void any warranties. If they say its ok then you can put it on your car even if its a lease....just keep the stock one so you can switch them when the lease is up!

No worry's, I lease too http://msg.toprotege.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif Any mod you do just make sure you keep the original component so it can be undone at lease end. In most cases the dealers don't really care about mods.Just to be safe check with them about it first.
