What can I say my next car will be a 6 . I took a V6 5speed out today for a test run . That thing is real fast . 4th gear at 5grand doing 160k ,still had 1500 rpm before red line . This car is worth every penny .From the short time I had it out i only thought of 2 things i would change ,The springs 1.5" drop and the shifter ,to much play ,new bushings and a short throw shifter will take car of that .

I wonder how good the motor is, considering it is a V6 from ford (Taurus/sable) with a mazda variable vavle timing..

I have no doubts that it is quite the handler...But the Honda Accord v6 would completely smoke that car in a drag race...

I considering getting the 6, however i felt that $34 grand on teh car was way too much..

Styling is top notch however.. it needs some HIDs to go with that sexy headlights/.

Considering that block is one of fords good ones, it should be fine.

Who gives a shit about drag racing? Your looking in the wrong class if thats what you want... why buy an FWD Boat as a drag racer?!? http://www.protegeclub.com/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

I haven't test drive it but from the reviews I have heard, the speed is not that great compare to its class competitors. I'm not much of a speed person but I do love the styling. The beak (grill) is a little too big but that can be change easily. Otherwise, it's a good looking car to doll up.

And an Altima or Maxima would dust them both...but how does the 6 turn?

No doubt, mazda always makes amazing handling cars... I feel confident driving the mazdas around, other than the fact it feels so underpowered to me..

And yes the altima or maxima is faster, but the maxima has the shittiest handling ever..

Because most people that drag race use very common hondas. Imaging pulling up in a 4 door and blowing the competition away..

I drove the 4 cyl and it was ok. Nice styling, quiet ride, and much smoother than my P5. However, the extra 30 hp must be eaten up by the extra weight or gearing, as I was not impressed with acceleration - no faster than the P5. And this model was $32K +, too much for what Mazda is offering.
Didn't drive the V6; I'm sure it's fast but I wasn't interested in a V6. Both models appear over priced.
I was disappointed to see a negative remark in Consumers Report on the V6, indicating this car is not in the same class as the Accord or Camry. Not sure why they said that (no explanation). I do admit to liking the sport package on the Camry, with the blacked out headlights and alloys, but it's too big and "family". Honda's new Accord is so bulbous and boring style, and it got too big. What is with this "back to the seventies big car era" anyway?
Not everyone cares which car is faster dragging from a light, or we would buy V8 muscle cars. Quality is more important to some of us. I hope the M6 proves to be a quality vehicle.
As for the Altima, I've read many articles that say yes, it's fast, but accused Nissan of cheap interior trim. Of course, those are subjective opinions of testers. They've said that of the new Murano too, and they're wrong; my buddy's Murano is quality thru & thru! Has way more style and flare than anything else in its category, including the way pricier MDX. And I've been in it and driven it enough to know, there is nothing cheap inside it. So take these testers' opinions with a grain of salt.
***So if you were going like 160 in 4th gear, I take it the sales person didn't ride in the car?*** Nice way to break in the engine... LOL

Nice write up...

The motor is not as refined as the toyota camry motor, honda's v6 or nissans v6..

I agree altimas interior is the biggest piece of crap ever.. because of the cheap trimming..

I beleive buyers of the Mazda 6 should take a serious look at the Acura TSX. My neighbour picked it up... Its freakin sweet and has amazing resale to boot.

My next car is going to be a 6-speed V6 Accord, or a 6-speed Maxima, (not the new body style.)

I love my P5, but I'm still not hooked on Mazda's quality, the engines and trans. are not up to what should be japan auto maker's standards.

My pal has a V6 Accord, and I can't imagine how awsome it would be with a stick.

Then it would make sense to get a smaller lighter weight 4 door. You missed the point about these cars being over weight boats.

Well I've had the oppotunity to drive all models of the M6 and I must say that I really enjoyed driving the V6 5spd (at the time it was the only one in Canada fully loaded yellow, leather, GFX package...it was a special order that was cancelled)
